PERSONALITY:

Like most children Goten acts his age a lot of the time, especially when there aren’t any big worries to concern himself over. Thanks to the Z Fighters most of his childhood was a peaceful one. It doesn’t hurt that Goten lives away from the hustle and bustle of the city and out in the middle of nowhere. Unlike how overprotective his mom was with Gohan, Goten had a little more freedom and a lot less pressure on him to put studying before anything else. This allows him to actually be a kid and be playful which is him basically all the time unless there’s trouble brewing.

While Chi-Chi was against Gohan fighting she actually taught martial arts to Goten. They often sparred while brother was studying and she even encourages him to win fights. Because Goten and his mom spend a lot of time together he cares for her a lot and was upset when she got killed by Buu to the point where he cried. Of course, Goten’s caring nature extends to the other people he cares about too. Not just people but also creatures. Like his father, Goten spends a lot of his time hanging out in nature and making friends with the local wildlife. He cares for the smallest insect to the biggest dinosaur and sees them all as friends. Though his caring nature won’t stop him from going hunting or fishing for food to eat.

His caring nature makes him very loyal to those people. He’d face something scary and dangerous in order to protect those he cares for. Even if it’s Vegeta. And Goten certainly doesn’t hold back when there’s something to say. Not just standing up for what he believes in but also just childish babble too. Sometimes Goten can’t even keep a secret he’s been told to keep because his excitement causes his mouth to get away from him. Goten is also pretty brave for a seven year old. When the whole world was depending on him and Trunks mastering the Fusion Technique and facing down the big bad, he stepped up to the challenge. Though that doesn’t mean he doesn’t get a bit scared at times, he just overcomes it.

Like all Saiyans, Goten enjoys fighting. Not only does he enjoy it but he has the urge to fight those that are stronger than him as well. To be able to beat them would be great in his opinion. A lot of the time he takes his fighting seriously but not always. It helps that Goten has a lot of determination, not just in battles but also in general. His determination has helped him keep going when Buu killed the entire planet and even his family. It was enough to keep him training in order to perfect the Fusion technique with Trunks and to face down an opponent so much stronger than him.

Unfortunately sometimes Goten is easily distracted by other things. When he went with Gohan who was attempting to train he was distracted by various creatures. It, of course, led to him distracting his brother pretty badly. Not only is he easy to divert from his task, Goten is also easy to influence. Generally this is mostly Trunks’ fault as he is Goten’s best friend but those he trusts can also get him to do things he shouldn’t. He’ll also believe anything he’s been told as well, so Goten is considered a bit naïve because of it. That is unless he was told different from a more trusted individual. Though Goten is generally the voice of reason when he’s with Trunks he usually goes along with what his friend wants to do.

Hanging out with Trunks certainly makes Goten get into more trouble but on his own he can be quite mischievous. A lot of the time it’s more of an innocent sort of trouble because he’d never think of doing something terrible. Or he wouldn’t even realize that it would be considered getting into trouble. It would be like him getting over his head by trying to play with a dinosaur a million times his size. And it certainly doesn’t help that Goten is one of those kids who could go and go. He seems to have nearly endless energy for a kid, especially when it’s time to play or fight. Though it won’t last forever and when he’s out, he’s out.

Goten is a very friendly kid, always having a smile for people and wanting to hang out with his friends or family. But he can be a bit shy at times like when he first met his father for the first time. He stuck pretty close to Trunks during the World Tournament too rather than trying to make friends with the other kids. But his shyness isn’t something that always sticks around long and he felt comfortable with his dad after a very short moment. Goten was instantly friendly with Videl when she first showed up because she was Gohan’s friend. Though he was a little annoyed when her flying lessons were taking up brother training time.

ABILITIES:

Martial Arts
He actually was taught martial arts by his mother, Chi-Chi, when his older brother Gohan was away. Goten is good enough to hold his own in "fight games" with his best friend Trunks or even against adults who have been training for years. Since it was his mother who taught him, Goten has been taught to have some respect for the person he's about to fight against.

Saiyan-Human Hybrid
Goten, like his older brother, is half-Saiyan which gives him inhuman strength and speed. He's also far more durable than a normal human would be (though that doesn't mean he won't complain/cry about it), can push himself longer and harder than most adults. Of course Goten has other abilities that come in useful like heightened sense of smell and a bit of accelerated healing. Of course he can also eat his weight (and then some) in food. Like other Saiyans if he uses up all of his energy he will have to refuel which is pretty close to impossible on the Charon a lot of the time.

Ki Manipulation
As a Saiyan hybrid Goten has a natural affinity for manipulating his own energy in various ways. He can use it to channel it into an attack, to sense others with it, or even use it to fly. At first, Goten didn't know how to fly since he was learning everything from his mother and it wasn't something she could do. When Gohan started teaching it to Vidal, he also started learning at the same time too. Because he'd been learning to harness his own ki and his natural ability it took him considerably less time to take to the sky. Since he first appeared on the show Goten's power level has grown to match that of bitty!Trunks perfectly.

Super Saiyan
Thanks to being a half-blooded Saiyan Goten has the ability to transform into a Super Saiyan. It multiplies his strength fifty times past his normal level. He is actually the youngest to achieve this form in the entire series. Due to having transformed during a spar with his mother (who freaked out and told him not to) Goten didn't use this ability around others much. Trunks was aware of it when his own brother didn't. Even Vegeta was surprised when he learned the two children could become Super Saiyans.

Fusion Ha!
By evening out his power level with Trunks, they can perform a technique called the Fusion. This combines the two into one being known as Gotenks if done right. Gotenks' power is beyond any of the Z Fighters, even greater than Goku himself. They can also become Super Saiyan while in this form and they can push beyond that to reach Super Saiyan 3. This ability, of course, is not be possible at all without the Trunks he knows and even if Trunks showed up it might not work right. Even so this technique can only last half an hour and takes an hour before they can try again.

Limitations?
Took these from the other godmodes of the DB canon. Of course Goten will not be able to leave the ship by flying or the giant birdie will eat him (and look at him, he is deliciously fun-sized). Then again, Goten is the sort to try to make friends with Mr. Birdie and Mr. Sharky. He won't be able to break the ship because they need that to float on, or break in to stuff he's not allowed to. Since food is a rarity he'll be considerably weaker than normal just in general. Becoming a Super Saiyan is only for plot reasons. Fusion is out of the question without his partner-in-crime and even if bitty!Trunks showed up it could be limited to failed fusions seeing as how their power level is all out of whack.

[Back and forth, back and forth, back and fo- Ugh. Okay, not a good idea to let himself sway with the motion of the ship. It made his tummy upset. That doesn't stop it from growling though. Goten puts a hand on it and pats it comfortingly.]

Don't worry, tummy! I'll find you something good to eat.

[He takes off at a run for the kitchen, stopping only when he reaches the pantry. Opening the door takes no time at all but inside all Goten can see is canned corn. The boy scales the shelves, pushing aside cans to find something different - something better. Some of the cans get accidentally pushed off the shelves and land on the floor with a thud which cause Goten to look down.]

Oops. [Anyone nearby will probably hear the commotion.]

[After his unsuccessful hunt in the pantry for something other than corn the little boy has no choice but to ask for help. So he flips on his funny device and it shows Goten is standing in the galley, only a couple of inches taller than the counter behind him.]

If I catch fish could someone cook them for me? [Manners, Goten. Manners.] Please? I can catch enough for you too if you do! I can catch lots of fish as long as Rakor doesn't mind.

[He's seven, of course he named the shark.]
