| As is typical of most children, Chibiusa is often capable of making friends easily enough -- though this wasn't always so. Growing up known as the daughter of Queen Serenity, she felt the pressure of living up to her potential. Chibiusa didn't have any true friends who were her age and was even teased by them to the point where she stole her mother's crystal to prove she could truly use it. Her first real friends came in the form of her cat Diana and Sailor Pluto, however they both had duties of their own and treated her as the princess she was. It wasn't until she went back to a time where no one knew her true identity that Chibiusa made friends. After spending time around Usagi and her friends, Chibiusa learned about true friendship and has come to care for her friends deeply. If she can do something to help them, then she absolutely will even if means potentially risking her life.
For the most part, Chibiusa has the chance to be a carefree and happy kid with a normal life. She enjoys a wide variety of things such as playing video games, art or even simply being with her friends. Despite being over nine hundred years old, she still has the mentality of a child to go along with her physical form. She has no hesitation about expressing her joy and excitement when appropriate. Of course, on the opposite end of that, Chibiusa can also be something of a brat. While this trait has lessened greatly during her journey, it is something she is still capable of. Sometimes she will use this method as a tactic of cheering someone up. This brattiness used to be a defense mechanism after having suffered the ridicule from other kids, making her a bit quicker to take sharp, hurtful jabs at someone. Now it's more of a friendly and gentle sort of teasing. Though Usagi has this way of making Chibiusa act immature and childish at times.
Even with her childish nature, Chibiusa is also quite capable of being extremely polite and respectful. She was taught all of the mannerisms a young lady and princess should have. This is usually reserved for first meetings, during situations that call for it or if she meets someone who has the same traits. However as she grows closer to someone Chibiusa becomes more relaxed and comfortable around them, though still in a polite manner. On occasion, Chibiusa has shown the true maturity of her age which may confuse people considering her appearance. Once she even put aside her crush on Mamoru to help her future parents become closer
Anyone who knows Usagi would not be surprised to learn that her daughter is also something of a crybaby. If this girl feels sad, then she won't try to hold them back - at least not anymore. At first, Chibiusa is shown keeping most of her negative emotions bottled up as she tries to face the reality of her situation. Her world had been attacked, her mother encased in crystal and she felt it was all her fault. It took her a long while and many heartaches before she was willing to open up about the truth. Since then, Chibiusa has allowed her emotions to flow freely even if means crying. While she isn't quite as vocal about the small things that are generally unpleasant as Usagi is, her emotions are typically easy to read.
Once someone has made a home inside of her heart, Chibiusa is always going to care about that person. She's capable of great loyalty and kindness - it was this that pulled her back after becoming Black Lady. Upon seeing Pluto giving her life, it was enough to break Wiseman's hold on her mind and heart, even going so far as to unlock Chibiusa's potential to become a Senshi. After hearing that the Outer Senshi wanted to kill her friend, Hotaru, she didn't hesitate to race out there in an attempt to protect her. No matter how scary a situation may be, Chibiusa would face it if it meant protecting the people she loved and cared about. There was even a time when she was willing to put aside her own desires to be needed if it would mean that it would help someone else.
It took a great deal of personal growth for Chibiusa to become the person she is today. After the Black Moon attacked Crystal Tokyo, she ran away to the past partially due to the fact that she was scared. She desperately hoped that Sailor Moon would be able to help her save her home, not believing that there was anything else she could do. The enemy took advantage of Chibiusa when her heart was at its weakest, allowing for the creation of Black Lady. She was corrupted by the dark energy, positive feelings became twisted and negative emotions were brought to the surface. No words or emotions of others were powerful enough to break through to the Chibiusa that existed, only the loss of one of her closest friends brought her back to herself. Even while she had been able to break free, it didn't simply erase all of the negative traits she had. It merely made her realize and accept them - both the good and the bad.
For the longest time Chibiusa's love was very distorted as she couldn't see Mamoru as her father and she competed for his affection with Usagi. As Black Lady, those feelings were even more twisted twisted as she took Mamoru and had plans to make him her King. Afterwards, they waned quite a bit but she still wanted his attention more. Every now and then it was so very obvious that she knew Usagi would be the one with Mamoru but it didn't stop her from teasing Usagi about spending time with Mamoru. Eventually, she revealed to Usagi that she no longer wanted more time with him and instead encouraged them to be together. Her first crush was over and in its place was a blooming warmth for a priest named Helios.
Since her childhood, she had heard stories of Sailor Moon who beat every foe and was invincible from her father. So when her world was being threatened, it was only natural for her to seek out this hero for help. First impressions weren't great considering Chibiusa tried to threaten Usagi in order to take her Silver Crystal. Nor did it help when she attached herself so firmly to Mamoru, causing the older girl to become jealous and distrustful of Chibiusa. Yet despite how distantly she treated Usagi, Chibiusa looked up to her and was depending on her to save her world. During the first few battles, things were extremely strained between them even after Usagi learned who she really was. None of that mattered in the end because Usagi attempted to reach out to her - to save her from the hold Wiseman had on her.
It was from that point on that Chibiusa and Usagi's really started to change, to draw them closer into a family unit that they truly were. Both of them were upset when Chibiusa was supposed to go home for the first time, both believing it would be the last time they would see each other like this. Upon her return to the 20th century, the two of them were more like siblings as they teased each other but also had no problem expressing their love. They would compete for Mamoru's affection and attention, though it held far less jealously than it previously did. To Chibiusa, Usagi is both like a mother and a sibling at times - someone she loves unconditionally and hopes to be like someday.
From the very beginning, Chibiusa had a very stubborn nature that hardly ever wavered. After having seen Sailor Moon defeat the enemy that plagued the 30th century, she wanted to become more like her. Which was great when her mother sent her back to train with Sailor Moon and the other Senshi. Like her mentors, Chibiusa refused to run away or back down when she saw someone being hurt. While she was stronger as Sailor Chibi Moon, it didn't stop Chibiusa in civilian form from helping others. She's willing to stand up for what she believes in and to fight for what she believes is right - even if that meant facing down her own friends. She's learning to be selfless like Sailor Moon and on occasion it definitely shows in her actions when she sacrifices herself for those she cares about.
All-in-all, she still has a great deal of growing up to do both mentally and emotionally which will only come with time and experience. Chibiusa has learned a great deal from the past Senshi but her mother had deemed it time for her to train with her own Senshi. So while she learned about being part of team, it's now time for her to learn to lead one against future dangers. Though that certainly wouldn't stop her from going back in time to help Sailor Moon if it was needed.
Seeing as how Diana is a sentient being with a will of her own yet is never far from Chibiusa, it seems important to talk about her here. This cat is one of Chibiusa's closest friends and also acts as an advisor, though she still learning the role much like Chibi Moon is. Typically Diana is a calm presence in the face of danger, hoping to provide guidance to Chibiusa much like her parents do for Usagi and Minako. She was willing to seek help from Pluto and even offered to take her place so that Pluto could help the Senshi. Diana is selfless and caring, occasionally acting like the kitten she is but she strives to be just like her parents. |
