Background: The Red Dragon God
Personality:
Hiryuu is, above all else, kind. As a god he looked down upon the Earth and saw how the humans suffered, rather than continue to sit back and do nothing, Hiryuu descended from heaven. He took a fragile human form so that he could build a future for them. It didn't matter how evil the humans were or how they might have treated him, Hiryuu still cared for them. He didn't abandon them when he chance and instead choose to remain among them, continuing to fight for the future he wanted them to have. This kindness extends to practically everyone - even his enemies. While Hiryuu will not hesitate to strike down a foe, he does long for the day where there can be peace. It's not a dream that he can possibly accomplish, he knows, but nonetheless it's a dream he has, not just for the people of his kingdom but for everyone. Hiryuu's kindness is far-reaching and it has become some kind of love, not the personal love one might feel towards a spouse or child but simply an all-encompassing one that is available to most that he comes across.
He may be kind but is also extremely fierce when the need calls for it and it is something that is needed a great deal. Hiryuu has literally built the kingdom of Kouka from the ground up, fighting his way through hatred and evil. Carving a place out of nothing is not an easy task especially considering he had been on his own at the start. He had to be ruthless when in a fight, not think about how he was striking down his enemy with the intention of killing them. Survival was key and Hiryuu is not the sort who would kill someone out of hatred often. It did become easier when he had the four dragon warriors at his side but suddenly Hiryuu was a completely normal human who had four extraordinary men following in his wake. That only made him that much fiercer on the battlefield with "monsters" on his side. Having such fearsome men might have made battles a little easier but it didn't stop others from invading his territory completely.
While he may be kind and tend to not kill out of hatred, Hiryuu is still a regular person and is capable of having negative emotions towards another. It wouldn't happen often and he would never hate anyone for something that was done towards him. What does make him angry is some sort of injustice towards others and that is something he would not be able to tolerate much. Of course he wouldn't result to striking out with violence right away but would attempt to solve the problem in a diplomatic fashion first before resulting to intimidation and if that did nothing, Hiryuu would kill them. He also tends to put the well-being of others before his own, not caring if he has to sacrifice himself for the good of someone else. That person can be a complete stranger but it hardly matters to him. With that said, Hiryuu is also not the absolute reckless sort. He wouldn't rush headfirst into a dangerous sitation without some sort of vague plan, not unless he saw there was no other way. It helps when he has a bunch of strong dragon warriors who are always trying to protect him.
As a king - as a king of a new country - he has to be intelligent. Considering he was a god turned human, there was much about the human that he wouldn't have known and would have had to learn along the way. Human countries were not run the way heaven was and Hiryuu was constantly out in the middle battles running strategies to ensure his victory. Outside of the fighting he had a country to rule over, decisions to make about how it would be ruled over and what steps he should take next in order to make Kouka prosper. While he might have had people to help advise him in these decisions it would essentially come down to what he decreed.
Not only is he intelligent but Hiryuu is very observant, noticing things others might not in any given minute. It is helpful on the battlefield but doesn't stop just when he's in the heat of the moment. When Zeno revealed his vague healing ability, Hiryuu knew what it really meant. He knew that Zeno could be chopped down only to heal shortly after - that Zeno would never die no matter whatever form that might death might take. From then on he even ordered that Zeno stay behind him when in battle because Hiryuu knew what kind of life the boy would experience. He had wanted to protect the boy from that kind of suffering for as long as he possibly could. Then proceeded to tell no one of what he knew of Ouryuu's true power, not even when Hiryuu was on his own deathbed and Zeno panicked over how he wasn't aging or how fast his wounds healed.
Typically when not battling, Hiryuu is a very calm individual. There isn't a whole lot that truly ruffles him and can be seen as an easy and laid-back king. It's a sort of light-hearted feeling wherever Hiryuu goes, one that is actually capable of soothing his easily irritated dragons. Some may even think him foolish should they come across him on a normal day. Hiryuu enjoys the peace immensely and would prefer to have every day be peaceful but is realistic enough to know that such a life is impossible. Still, he can lightly tease his dragons and even laughs easily when the days are just right. Most of the time he manages to do it in a relatively dignified manner seeing as how Hiryuu has never ever been a true child. Even as a human there is something ethereal about the lightness that surrounds him whenever he's happy.
Despite the fact that he was once a powerful god, Hiryuu is actually fairly humble. He didn't come down from heaven and expect to be worshipped or even set out to be a king who was adored by his people. The last thing he wants is for people to bow at his feet simply because of what he is - dragon god or king. Respect and loyalty is something that has to be earned and that goes both ways in Hiryuu's eyes. If those are given to him, Hiryuu will return it. While he may accept that the people of Kouka look to him for guidance and leadership, Hiryuu worked hard in order to earn that in the first place. Hiryuu did take on human form once he was on Earth when he had once been a god before - meaning that he was willing to sacrifice all of the power he had to walk in the muck with the other humans. To put back-breaking work into earning the people's trust by swinging a sword and standing shoulder-to-shoulder with them. Hiryuu does not think himself better than anyone no matter what his position might be. He's pretty humble for a god.
Determination is a key factor in Hiryuu's personality, one that is essentially the cause for everything he's ever done up until this point. A lot of his actions are fueled by his determination in one way or another and his determination is the strength behind every decision he's ever made. Even when things looked bleak and he was about to die by the hands of humans, Hiryuu did not give up - he downright refused. It didn't matter if his dragon god brethren wanted him to, he pitted his will against theirs and came out on top. He does know when to concede but if it's something that he completely believes in, Hiryuu will refuse to give up and let his determination shine through.
Abilities:
Red Dragon God:
Hiryuu is actually a dragon deity of his world - one of five and some time ago he cast aside his dragon form to take on the appearance of a human. For the most part he has all of the typical human abilities: reasonable strength, stamina and is even capable of dying (and dying slowly). He is just the average man who walks like any other human, swinging around swords against his enemies with no special powers. Yet the fact still remains that just because he choose to look like a human doesn't mean he is completely. The red dragon god still exists somewhere inside of him, though is perhaps weaker than he once was. Just because he's human now does not mean he couldn't go back to being a dragon god, he may not have as much strength as he once did to perform this act but it's more of a choice to remain human. Like the other four dragons he could share his blood with a human should he become a dragon again and they would gain extraordinary abilities but he never would. Though even in his human form there is still something special about him. This is typically seen through others, however, such as the medallion he gave to Zeno before his death that never rusts or melts or tarnishes and does actually magically return to Zeno when lost or given away. Not to mention that his soul was reincarnated some two thousand years later in the form of Princess Yona. Obviously reincarnation will not happen in Empatheias.
Most of his abilities lie in what the realm of what a normal human could do, such as how to fight. Hiryuu typically uses a sword in battle and does so quite successfully. He can swing it around with one hand and with enough strength that it would deal a fatal blow in one strike. Fighting is probably the one real skill that he's extremely good at. Due to the fact that he's a king, Hiryuu hasn't had to do a lot of other things such as cooking or cleaning though he is capable of getting by if need be.
Alignment: Elios
Once upon a time he was a dragon, but he became human and during that time Hiryuu loved them so much that he fought for them and built a country for them and had children and eventually dies as one. Hiryuu is also so beloved by his fellow dragon gods that they couldn't bare to lose him so they shared their blood with humans. He is no stranger to hate either, it is something he battled against nearly everyday of his human life and even his fellow dragon gods experienced this emotion towards humans.

[This world was a strange one, even more strange than when Hiryuu had descended from the heavens to live among the humans who occupied the Earth. He had watched the humans for so long and had learned so much simply from that but this was different. Perhaps not entirely so as there were many humans here but this world wasn't like either of the ones he had come from before. Emotions were given real form, something that Hiryuu has experienced already but quickly put a stop to when he realized what sort of damage it had done.
He had been absolutely surprised to find himself here but what had been worse was how he felt. One moment Hiryuu had felt weak, sickly and knew death waited for him and the next he felt vibrant once more - like he hadn't in a while. It was obvious that he hadn't returned to heaven immediately and the shock of that realization had caused a nearby vase to break. Hiryuu had put a cap on that emotion in order to discover what was happening, where he was. That was something he was good at, pushing aside his feelings to deal with the matter at hand. Hiryuu had taken everything in stride as he discovered what he had gotten into, even when faced with any individual that had come from his world.
Now that he was alone he could allow himself to feel without worrying about what damage he might inflict. Hiryuu has picked a spot far from any structures, only various plantlike would feel the extent of his emotions. He hasn't bothered sitting upon the grass but instead has his back to the trunk of a large tree, leaning against it as if he could no longer keep himself upright without its silent support.]
Zeno... [The two syllable name is nothing more than a whisper, allowing it to pass through his lips more broken than he ever had. Above him the leaves of the tree go from vibrant green to yellow nearly instantly, most breaking loose from their branches to fall around him unnoticed. Hiryuu hadn't needed his young dragon to tell him anything - he simply knew just from looking at the boy. It had only a single look to know that the Zeno he'd last seen back home was not the same as the one who lived here. Gone was the innocence and uncertainty from the boy's eyes and in its place was the pain of a man who walked the earth for all of eternity. Hiryuu had suspected back then when Zeno revealed his healing capability to them and said nothing for he knew the boy would break against the stones many times over.]
What have you done, brother? [He expects no response from the yellow dragon, so his words are spoken to the ground. The grass which suffers from the emotion he cannot direct towards the one responsible - it shrivels and turns brown in the onslaught of his rage. A large circle of dead grass around him is not the end and a cracking sound is heard going up the trunk of the tree behind him, anger snapping several of the limbs above. They thud to the ground even as Hiryuu turns to face the tree they fell from, pressing his forehead into the damaged trunk as he allows his anger to dissipate.
While the world around him seems still Hiryuu closes his eyes - accepts the horrible truth of the matter, and moves on. Zeno isn't the only dragon here. There is another as well, Shu-Ten has become trapped here too. Even if there is a whole wide world, there are still boundaries here. His green dragon cannot go wherever he wants... not easily anyway. The sense of freedom is there but he can see the shackles that bind Shu-Ten to the earth inside of his mind. Hiryuu could not do the same - could not expect Shu-Ten to follow him as he had back in the days when they were at war. Whatever the green dragon wants now, Hiryuu would have no influence over him.
He almost laughs before speaking to himself.] Not as if I had any in the first place. Shu-Ten tended to do what he wanted.
[They had no enemies to fight here, not ones that could torn down with swords and spears.] I will miss him should he leave me.
[Of course he felt the absence of his other dragons as well, Abi and Guen. It felt as if they had always been beside him even if that wasn't the case. All of the dragons were almost as if they were extension of his will. Perhaps that was one of the reasons his brothers had offered their blood to humans in the first place. He could feel the ache of where they should have been inside of his chest as if someone had carved out a large part of him. Much like how part of the bottom of the tree was starting to fall apart. It broke until only dust remained and left a large hollowed out cavern but still remains firmly planted in the ground.
He could not think about his dragons without thinking of the young girl as well. If Hiryuu ever had a daughter, she would look nearly identical to Princess Yona but that isn't it at all. While she was surely a descendant there is also something else there. A connection that bonded them closer than blood ever could. Looking upon her was like looking at the light. He has to wonder if this is how others look upon him, how they view him despite the bloodshed he's dealt. The ache left in his chest doesn't seem so be so bone-deep somehow when Hiryuu is in her presence. Simply thinking of her warmth was contagious, catching fire from one person to the next. There is so much about her that he wants to know and perhaps she feels the same.]
Perhaps there will be plenty of time for that. I certainly hope so.
[Now that the turmoil of his emotions have settled into something more managable, he pulls away from the tree. Hiryuu's gaze moves upwards and to the branches above his head. New life is growing there, small buds ready to become brand new leaves and he smiles faintly at the sight. A hearty pat to the tree.]
I apologize for what I inflicted upon you. It will not happen again.
[Once again Hiryuu is in full control of his emotions - better than he had been when he'd first picked out this spot. Now it was time to face the world again.]
