Character Info:
Full Name: Captain James Tiberius Kirk
Called By: Captain Kirk, Captain, Jim, Kirk
Age: 26 (acts younger on occasion)
Canon: Star Trek, Game, with a little of Into Darkness (Taking him from the end of the Nibiru mission to avoid major spoilers)
History: Warning, there's spoilers already
Personality:
As a child Jim was actually a pretty good kid, he did everything he was told up until the day his stepfather's anger ran off his older brother. Ever since that day he stole his father’s car and drove it off of a cliff Jim has been on the wrong side of the law several times. He’s rebellious and often gets himself into fights over the stupidest things – while both sober and drunk. Even after spending three years at the Starfleet Academy have done nothing to dampen that rebellious streak as he went against Spock’s orders and fought his way back to the Enterprise for the sake of making the acting Captain angry. Kirk has no issue doing what he thinks is best no matter what he may have to do in order to accomplish it.
On top of that he’s also rather reckless, not giving a care if he lives or dies. This too started when his stepfather drove Sam away from the Kirk home and he waited until the last second to jump out of the falling car. He practically invites trouble by provoking his opponents with taunts and teasing. Though nowadays when he puts his life at risk it generally involves the sake of others such as when he willingly jumped off of the drill to save Sulu’s life or to mount a rescue for Captain Pike.
To go along with his rebellious and reckless behavior James T. Kirk is also a bit of a maverick. He has an unconventional way of tackling a problem such as when he went to take the Kobayashi Maru exam for the third time. Not only did this lead to his studying involve having a sexual encounter with one of his fellow classmates but also when he hacked the programming on the test itself in order to save the ship. It goes hand-in-hand with “I don’t believe in no-win scenarios” and often lends a hand to getting the crew/ship out of certain circumstances that may seem to either have a choice of surrender or death.
A large portion of Kirk’s personality is his cockiness. At times it practically oozes off of him in waves as he seems to think he’s the universe’s best gift to existence. This cockiness is actually what got him into Starfleet as he was determined to prove to Pike that he could get through the courses and have his own ship in three years rather than five. Not to mention that Pike challenged him to do better than his father who was Captain of a ship for twelve minutes and saved 800 lives. Kirk, having never known his own father, rose to that challenge and became determined to beat it.
That cockiness really comes into play when he’s attempting to pick up girls. He honestly thinks he can say anything and get a girl to like him. Kirk also doesn’t give up after being rejected showing just how cocky and secure he is. All through his Academy years he had a reputation of sleeping with the females and he didn’t even use his father’s fame like some would. He’s perfectly confident in his own skills to pick up chicks and get them into bed with him.
It also helps that Kirk is pretty shameless when it comes to the things in his life. He has no issue getting caught half-naked in a girl’s bed and trying to pick up on the roommate. This can help in other situations too such as there’s not really anything a person can hold over his head because he simply doesn’t care about a lot of crap. While others wouldn’t go back to take the Kobayashi Maru Exam Kirk had no problem admitting that he’d taken it twice and was ready for a third beating. Even when he was called out for cheating he wasn’t ashamed to stand up for what he thought was really going on. Though that doesn’t mean he isn’t proud when he does manage to do something spectacular.
Anyone who ever knew Kirk would have to say that he was a confident young man because alongside all of his other traits there’s a deep rooted confidence. While living with his abusive, alcoholic stepfather he learned that he couldn’t let people just walk all over him and he couldn’t just lean on his father’s fame. So he started living and believing in his own skills which led to some of those other qualities. In fact he takes offense when people bring up his father and those twelve minutes of endless fame George accomplished – especially when people try to compare the two of them and find Kirk lacking. He now has it set in his mind that he’s not only going to surpass his father’s greatness but also carve his own way into history and make the names James T. Kirk stand out all on it’s own rather than just being George Kirk’s son.
His determination knows no limits, whether it’s academically or even physically. Not only was he hell-bent on making Captain in three years Kirk was also at the top of his classes while being an assistant instructor in advanced hand-to-hand combat and the Treasurer to the xenolinguistics club. This determination has saved his own life on several occasions and even the lives of those around him such as when he knew Spock’s plan would only waste time they didn’t have. Sometimes this quality has various downsides as it can get away from him and cause him more trouble than what he’s already in, such as leading to cheating and his suspension.
Kirk is one stubborn SOB and is so stubborn that it can put him at odds with those who would be the perfect allies. While on one hand it’s good for when he screws up so badly that people just want to lock him away because Kirk generally won’t leave until they hear him out when it’s actually important it can also have very negative effects. Particularly with Spock seeing as how his stubborn insubordination got him jettisoned from the Enterprise when his help was needed. Like a lot of Kirk’s qualities this is one that’s like a double-edged knife.
Due to the changes in the timeline Kirk’s young life was probably the one most messed-up by the events of his father’s death on the Kelvin. His temper being one of them as it’s quite volatile. There’s no denying that he has a hard time getting his anger under control when someone crosses him wrong. It can make him say terrible things towards another person and even violent if the situation is bad enough. Not to mention that it’s a lot easier to make this alternate version of Kirk angry.
Another change is his sarcasm. While in the original timeline his sarcasm was soft and even playful this Kirk’s takes on a biting edge. He has a lot more dry sarcasm and uses it more frequently against those he really doesn’t like. Though he can use it playfully the sarcasm isn’t really as friendly or soft towards others. On top of that he has a rather foul mouth and isn’t afraid to use curse words when the situation calls for it (though I blame that on the differences between now and the 60s). Those aren’t the only things that have changed with the shift in events, as this Kirk is far more carefree than the other. At the start of his adult-hood Kirk really didn’t have anything to lose. His mother was often off-world, his older brother was gone and all he had left was his cruel stepfather. It didn’t matter what he did with his life to anyone really so it didn’t matter to him. This shows up in his way of handling his position of power just a little bit as he obviously doesn’t care what anyone thinks of him just so long as he gets things done the way he wants.
Still ever since boarding the Enterprise Kirk has had something to fight for. There’s no denying that he would risk his own life to save others as he did with Sulu or even put the entire ship in the line of fire in order to protect a planet full of people. He’s the kind who would sacrifice the few in order to save the masses. Not only that but Kirk is a leader with the respect of others now that his crazy plan saved both the Earth and the Enterprise. It has earned him his position of command amongst the other great Captains.
Now while he’s not exactly the best at this Kirk is still growing with his diplomatic side. When they had Nero’s ship in the position to either save or destroy them he offered them the Enterprise’s help even though the Romulan’s had killed his father, screwed with his life and wiped Vulcan off of the star charts. It shows that he can be forgiving but Kirk also won’t hesitate to end someone’s life if they refuse to do as ordered – mostly against criminals.
Next comes Kirk’s intelligence. Despite his troubled childhood and young adult life he was quite the genius. This helped when he entered the Academy as he was at the top of his classes and even when he was smuggled onto the Enterprise as he was the only one to put together the attack on the other Starfleet ships before they entered the scene. While he’s obviously intelligent in strategic moves Kirk is also completely oblivious to other things such as when Spock!Prime tricked him into keeping his presence a secret.
A year later as a Captain, Kirk has become fiercely protective of his crew. He actually thinks of them as family, though he has closer bonds to a select few. There isn't really anything Kirk won't do for them - include breaking Starfleet regulations to save them and omitting details on reports to cover their asses. He and Spock have even gotten to be on better terms over the year and while the animosity is mostly gone they can disagree without all-out fighting. Kirk also has some level of professionalism with Uhura now too, attempting to keep out of her personal business (unless it affects a mission). To be honest, she's more like a sister to him when he would have hit on her a year earlier. He and McCoy are pretty much the same - with the snark, sarcasm but caring friendship they had formed years ago.
3 Interesting Character Facts:
1. Is the youngest Starfleet Captain.
2. Alcohol and sex are his friends.
3. He can speak a few aliens languages.
4. Kirk is allergic to everything. Okay, not really but there is a long list of things he's allergic to and thus only trusts Bones with his medical care (even if the Doctor doesn't know all of them yet).
5. He jumped from Cadet to First Officer to Captain in a matter of hours.
6. Technically never finished Starfleet Academy. After three years, Kirk was made Captain of the Enterprise with recommendation from Pike.
7. He's aware of alternate universes and even knows a little about it.
Powers: Kirk does not possess any abilities. He's a home-grown human farm boy.
Special Skills:
James has advanced hand-to-hand combat skills and actually was the assistant instructor while at the Starfleet Academy. This man can certainly take a hit considering he's been in a few bar fights and up against Romulans who have far more strength than a human. He's also trained to use phasers and shoot with deadly accuracy. To go along with his physical skills he's also been taught tactical analysis along with survival strategies in order to obtain the rank of Captain. His intelligence, quick-thinking, skills give him a good advantage over his opponents. Kirk is also quite good with technology and is able to hack even Spock's programming in order to cheat his way through the Kobayashi Maru exam. He can tinker with bits of technology to make it do whatever he wants. Kirk is also a good pilot/driver. Maybe. He can pilot or drive just about anything put in front of him but it can get a bit reckless and dangerous.
What is your character's comm icon and why? Command Gold Starfleet Insignia. Despite Kirk's reluctance to join Starfleet at first, he's pretty much made it his life now. And his ship - the crew of the Enterprise has basically become his family because his biological one sucks. There isn't anything Kirk wouldn't do for his family, so that means he needs to keep his captaincy in order to protect them to the best of his abilities.
Anything else?:
I tend to throw the events of Tarsus IV from the Prime universe into Kirk's history. And in the new movie they make mention of the "Mudd incident" and a ship confiscated from the conman.
One day I do want to update him to the end of Into Darkness if possible, but I want to hold off so as not to spoil the movie for everyone.

ONE sample may be a link to the test drive for this game, but you may be asked to provide more if it is not considered sufficient. Anything you write for this sample is not considered canon, so we gently suggest not writing your 'waking up' in this game as each will customized to each character.
Also note: If you wish to have unique waking experience (please see "How will my character arrive?" in the FAQ), please write the beginning of that scenario as one of your samples.

This is Captain James Kirk of the USS Enterprise. If you are a member of Starfleet, report in. It doesn't matter what point in time you're from or what alternate universe either.
I believe it's time someone organized the information we have on this place. Just some of the basics in order to get the information out quickly so conversations can turn to other topics such as how we can get out of here. I'll volunteer myself to collect and write it all out if people want to start telling me what they've learned so far. When this informational packet is finished I will post it to the network so you can link it to any new arrivals you talk to.
I need information, outsiders of the Station. I'd like to know where you came from. Planet, country or state, year and species, along with your name or anything else you might think is important. Consider this a study, a consensus or a headcount. [Because it's all three.] Feel free to send the information over private channels.
In other news I'm looking for crew members. The Enterprise is a big ship and needs a large crew to pilot her. Training is possible but anyone capable of handling advanced technology and piloting starships are very welcome. Until then I'm hiring a smaller crew to make trips to the planet with, at least one person familiar with the planet, if there are any, and a couple of muscles. Anyone interested in earning some credits can apply with me in person in Section 3.
Kirk out.
