Setting:
That one crazy universe where a species of Time Lords once existed and could change their face when they died, which they refer to as regeneration. Specifically this is the tale of one certain Time Lord who said "screw it, I do what I want" and took off to explore all of time and space. That's what he's been doing for a long time, exploring. Of course, if he happens to stumble on someone who needs help or rescuing then who is he to turn away? Time Lord laws never stopped him when his people were still alive and they're not stopping him now with his people dead.
This particular story is about a little generated anomaly in his life.Your time vortex to anywhere and anywhen | Yet stuck underground on a single planet
History:
The Doctor: Why did the TARDIS bring us here?
In the year 6012 of the New Byzantine Calendar humans and Hath traveled to a planet called Messaline in an attempt to colonize it. The atmosphere was dangerous so the robots built tunnels outward from the rocket while the Source waited. During this time the mission commander died and the factions were divided. A war broke out - humans against the Hath. In order to keep up with the killing progenation machines were used to create more soldiers for both sides. Approximately 140 generations later enter the Doctor with his two companions - Donna and Martha.
Unfortunately they were spotted by the human side and when the soldiers noticed that they didn't have marks on their hands from the progenation machine they were to be processed. Starting with the Doctor. After it took a skin sample from the Doctor out popped...a full-grown woman! The Doctor: Well she's... well. She's my daughter.
Jenny: Hello Dad.
Congratulations, it's a baby girl! A trained soldier too considering she jumped right into the fight that started just after her creation. Two of the human soldiers died in small skirmish but it's the newly created girl that saved them. Sort of. If one considers blowing up the section a victory. The Doctor was separated from Martha and generally upset at the entire situation so it's off to see the General in charge. Good thing Cline was so accommodating on that and wanted to bring them in for interrogation since they didn't make sense to him. On the way Donna asked her what her name was and she replied that she hadn't been assigned one yet. Take "generated anomaly" and turn it into Jenny and bam, she has a name she likes now.
Already father and daughter are arguing with each other but that's usually how things go, right? It's not entirely important now but it will be later. When they reach the human base camp they are introduced to General Cobb. To hide the truth the Doctor went with the assumption Cobb had that they were from a group that split off generations ago and it's here where they learn of the origin of the war and Donna starts her fascination with the numbers everywhere. Cobb spoke of the world that human and Hath had wanted to build together but the Hath apparently wanted it all for themselves. The first colonists started using the progenation machines to produce soldiers and there was war.
When questioned about what they were fighting for exactly, Cobb spoke about the Goddess who created the universe (a creation myth) and when she was done she sighed as she looked upon her work. That sigh was caught and kept and was now here on Messaline in what they were calling "The Source". And that was why they were fighting, both sides attempting to get at the Source to defeat the other side. One day they would able to end this war that they had been fighting for generations.
When the Doctor is shown a map he used the sonic screwdriver to uncover a layer of data that had been previously hidden and revealed that there were more tunnels. Not to mention the location of the Source. Cobb declared that they would march in the morning when the progenation machines came back online and end this war for good. Except he didn't trust the Doctor and for good reason. The Time Lord wouldn't allow them to commit genocide and intended to stand in their way. So the General told his soldiers to lock them up - Jenny too as she was from pacifist stock.
Locked in the cell the Doctor used Donna's mobile to call Martha who said they'd been looking at the map when suddenly more tunnels had shown up. The Hath were preparing to march too, meaning both sides would meet and end up fighting over the Source if they didn't get there first. Which meant getting out of there. This is when the negative feelings between father and daughter escalated, with Jenny claiming that he was a soldier and that she was going to learn so much from him. Donna insisted that they take Jenny along rather than leave her locked up in the cell. He claimed that she belonged here with the soldiers, not them. The Doctor: You’re an echo. That's all. A Time Lord is so much more. A sum of knowledge, a code, a shared history. A shared suffering. Only it’s gone now, all of it. Gone forever.
Jenny: What happened?
The Doctor: There was a war.
Jenny: Like this one?
The Doctor: Bigger. Much bigger.
Jenny: And you fought? And killed?
The Doctor: Yes.
Jenny: Then how are we different?
With gentle persuading from Donna it was discovered that Jenny had not one but two hearts. The girl had no idea what this meant and it turned into a conversation about Time Lords. It was Jenny that showed him that they did have things in common and he agreed to let her come along. In fact, it was her that got them out the cell by distracting the guard with a kiss while she stole his gun to hold against them. Once free they tied him up so they would have time to escape. They came across a soldier that the Doctor distracted him with a toy mouse and Jenny knocked unconscious. Dad definitely did not approve of her methods.
Armed with a copy of the map they left the human base camp and took to the tunnels to find the secret passage that would lead them to the Source. Donna took notice that the numbers were going down and started making a list of them, including all the ones she'd seen before. It was then that Jenny learned just what her father did. How he saved planets, rescued civilizations, defeated terrible monsters and ran. A lot. Wow that sounded like fun Jenny kind of wanted in on but won't ask for. Finally they get the passage open and on they go. Right up until they come across lasers blocking their path. Seriously, why?The Doctor: Listen to me. The killing. After awhile it infects you. And once it does you're never rid of it.
Jenny: But we don't have a choice.
The Doctor: We always have a choice.
Jenny: I'm sorry.
Suddenly they're trapped between the lasers and Cobb's tiny army. Jenny turned back to give the Doctor more time to access the control panel to shut down the lasers but before she did her dad gave her some pretty good advice. He told her that she didn't have to kill, that there was always a choice and she didn't listen. While Jenny held off the army the Doctor went to work on the panel. Cobb ordered his men to stop and approached, attempting to bring Jenny back to their side by saying she was a child of the machine like they were. The man was right there, she could have killed him if she wanted but instead she turned her gun to a hose and created a diversion.
Rushing back to she didn't quite make it in time to get across the laser field. Jenny tossed aside her gun and did some pretty impressive acrobatic moves to get across in a short amount of time. When she reached the other side she was so excited to tell her dad all about how she didn't kill Cobb even though she could have. Look, she learned something from her dad. Whoops, Cobb is still chasing them so it's time to go but not before the Doctor swore to destroy the Source if it was a weapon. Jenny ran ahead to scout the way while the Doctor and Donna have a discussion about being a parent. He admitted to Donna that he had been one but he lost them all. It was during this brief peaceful moment that the Doctor accepted her - just a bit. Enough to say that she could come traveling with him to see the universe. She was absolutely excited.
Their quiet time was over, Cobb and his men had blasted through the laser and it was time to run again. It didn't take them long to get to the door of the temple which turned out to be a ship. Imagine that. Once again they reach safety just in the nick of time, locking out Cobb. They don't have much time though as both groups are already working to get in. The Doctor went in search of information and here is where Donna put those collected numbers to work. Honestly, if it's been as long as everyone thought then the ship shouldn't have power and yet...it does. Clearly there's a mystery here to solve. Let's go, Scooby Gang!
Seven days. That's how long the war had been going on. Seven days with the progenation machines creating several generations in a day. The days were stamped on the walls with numbers of their completion date by the builders as they went out from the rocket. The truth behind the fighting had been muddled through word-of-mouth. It was a power-vacuum left behind when the mission commander died and they're running out of time to stop the height of the war. Here they're finally reunited with Martha who took the surface route to reach the rocket and they rush off toward a flowery scent only to find themselves in a garden. What?
As it turned out the mission had been to terraform the planet and the Source was actually the device to do it. When they're suddenly surrounded on all sides by both factions the Doctor smashed the device and the gases escaped to start the process of terraforming the planet. He explained the misunderstanding to both sides and now there would be enough planet for them to share. Both sides laid down their weapons, ready to lay aside the war all except one. Most of them were looking at the colorful gases but Jenny noticed when she came to ask her dad what was happening. The Doctor: Jenny, be strong now. You need to hold on, you hear me? We've got things to do, you and me. Hey! Hey! We can go anywhere, everywhere. You choose.
Jenny: That sounds good.
The Doctor: You're my daughter, and we've only just got started. You're going to be great. You're going to be more than great. You're going to be amazing.
What she saw was Cobb raise a gun and point it at the Doctor and she took the bullet for him. Unfortunately, even though she had two hearts it didn't mean she had the ability to regenerate too and Jenny died in her father's arms who had fully and finally accepted her. Geez, it only took her dying for him to do it. :| In the aftermath of her death, the Doctor's grief made him pick up the gun and hold it at Cobb's head. He didn't pull the trigger and instead told the people to make this a society of a "man who never would". Later when Jenny's body lay in the human camp, the humans and Hath asked the Doctor if they could give her a proper funeral and he agreed. The trio left Messaline and never knew what occurred there.
As the boys were standing over her body Jenny exhaled. The gases from the Source had revived her. IDK, MAN IT'S DOCTOR WHO. THIS SHOW DOES WHATEVER IT WANTS. DEATH IS THIS MYTHICAL THING THAT SOMETIMES HAPPENS AND SOMETIMES DOESN'T. She then proceeded to steal one of the escape shuttles so she could explore the universe. After all, she had planets to save, people to rescue, creatures to defeat -- and an awful lot of running to do. BB!gurl's gonna be just like dad.
Personality:
When she was created Jenny was the perfect soldier – quick on her feet, willing to fight, to kill and to die, a bit cold towards her enemy, sassy but a follower. She didn’t think of herself as a child even though she’d essentially just been born and she took offense at anyone who belittled her in such a manner – or said she wasn’t real. There was much she didn’t understand in the beginning and much she was willing to believe too had someone not been there to correct it. Then she started hanging out with the Doctor and that’s enough to change most people. Let’s not forget that Jenny’s got the added bonus of having his DNA, it was bound to have an affect on her.
Jenny was the serious sort, always taking things the way they were said or putting survival above everything else because that’s just the way she was designed. Spending time with her father and Donna allowed her to open up, to be able to smile and enjoy things more. Even when they’re getting shot at. Especially when they’re getting shot at. That doesn’t mean she doesn’t know when to be serious anymore, just that it’s not happening all the time. In fact, now there’s this sort of wonder to her. Everything is new and exciting with endless possibilities.
The seriousness was born from the fact that it was the middle of a war, people were dying and she needed to be the best soldier she could be. Turns out, Jenny is eager to learn even from a father who was considered “pacifist stock” by the general in charge because she saw something in them that she didn’t see in the other soldiers. They were different, using different sort of weapons to fight back and she wanted to learn more from him about this way of fighting. She even called him on the fact that he was fighting back simply because that’s the way she viewed his actions. Jenny truly believed that every good soldier was trying to stop the war and still does. While she hasn’t entirely grasped this concept of not killing to fight, Jenny has taken it to heart. Her father has taught her that she has a choice and she’ll do her best to find it. That doesn’t mean Jenny isn’t willing to arm herself, just that she won’t kill anyone to end a situation.
From the beginning there was always something there between her and her father that just rubbed them both raw when they were around each other. It was a freshly open wound for him to suddenly have a “daughter” and it often got in the way of their relationship at the start. Not to mention he often disapproved of her actions to handle a situation. He was brushing her off for the most part, willing to leave her behind when he managed to leave the planet. She tried to understand him, even looked up to him and wanted to learn from him but Jenny was shot down and so she retaliated with sass, managing to actually leave him speechless. It seemed nothing she did would please him.
One thing she did know how to do was how to manipulate boys with her “womanly wiles”. Jenny was smart enough to trick their guard with her slightly flirtatious nature and managed to get them out of the jail cell. However, that doesn’t mean Jenny has knowledge of the way things work. Her knowledge of life is pretty limited by what she’s learned and been programmed with and that isn’t all that much considering her short lifespan. She has learned not to believe everything she’s been told which means she’s far less naïve then when she started out.
Jenny is a strong, independent woman and always has been. She’s not afraid to speak her mind or stand up for herself even when she knows so little about herself. Yes she’s a soldier, yes she comes from the Doctor who is something called a Time Lord. Despite the fact that she has practically no information beyond that, Jenny doesn’t seem to have many doubts in herself about who or what she is. Of course, she is curious about it. Like most children, she has questions and an endless curiosity. If allowed Jenny could probably ask a million questions that she wants the answers to.
Yet she’s also a bit sensitive. When she started asking her dad about what happened to his people and saw his pain Jenny dropped the attitude she had earlier and let the harsh comments he made about her existence go in favor of something more sympathetic. At the same time she still tried to make him understand her as well. She attempted to breach the gap that was between them by trying to understand him because he is a complicated man with a lot of heartache, she can see it.
There’s a part of her that wants to please her dad, that doesn’t want him to be disappointed in her. It’s written all over her face when she manages to find a solution to killing General Cobb – the sheer joy of being able to do something she absolutely knows he’ll be proud of. But she also has this bit of rebellious streak to her too as is evident when she steals the shuttle and actually asks the boys if they’re going to tell her dad about it. Pffft, like that was going to make her stop if they actually said ‘yes’. That’s not going to stop even when she is faced with him.
Because she was grown straight from his DNA, Jenny has several of her dad’s traits. One of them being his adventurous side. Even though she’d been left behind after her death, Jenny didn’t sit and dwell on the fact that she couldn’t go with him. In fact, she kind of did what he did all those years ago. Jenny “borrowed” a shuttle and set off to see the universe, to be just like him and help people in need. She doesn’t want to sit and get involved in the boring parts of history; she wants to experience the parts that are far more fun and dangerous. Jenny actually asked what the Doctor does and learned that he traveled and basically rescued people. When she left Messaline it was to do the things he did, to help people who were in trouble and do an awful lot of running. The lessons he taught her weren’t many considering their short time together but she’s going to carry with them for as long as she lives.
She’s also a bit like the Tenth Doctor when she’s absolutely excited and happy in the touching department. When these moments occur Jenny gives no thought to holding back a hug. In another and less pleasant way she’s a lot like…well, any of his incarnations. Jenny happens to be the self-sacrificing type. While sure, dying was one of the things programmed into her and she was never afraid of it, she hadn’t exactly been the sacrificing sort. If she died in battle then that was fine, she would do it if it helped end the war. But to die for a person – to put herself in the line of fire for her dad is different. It wasn’t a selfless act or even a selfish one because Jenny’s pretty much neither. It was just an act born out of love for a man who was slowly but finally coming to accept her and seemed to actually want her.
All-in-all, Jenny is a complicated being who still has a lot left to learn and an eagerness to experience life.
Abilities, Weaknesses and Power Limitations:
Child of the Machine | Soldier: Being a product of a machine that grows and spits out species in a matter of minutes it can also "program" them with certain details. This particular one ensured that all of the people coming out of the machine knew how to fight. They were military-bred, that means Jenny can pick up a weapon and learn how to use it pretty quickly. She can tie a mean rope capable of keeping another military-programmed soldier tied up. It also means she can kick butt in hand-to-hand combat and knows some basic first aid.
Inherited: Due to being created from the Doctor's DNA she's inherited a few things from her "dad", namely her two hearts. However, this does not give her the ability to regenerate like a Time Lord. She also has excellent reflexes, precise timing and acrobatic ability beyond that of a normal human being. Jenny has shown she's capable of doing floor tumbling through grid of security lasers.
Pilot: Something new to her, well, let's be honest everything is new to her. Yet she seemed pretty adept at jumping into a shuttle and knowing how to pilot it pretty fast.
Weaknesses
Limited: All things considered Jenny is actually pretty limited in what she doesn't know. A whole universe and she's only seen a very small part of it. When she was first created all she knew was how to fight and how to die. Killing was something that came easily to her because she didn't know there were other ways. It wasn't until the Doctor told her that she had a choice not to kill that she realized there really was more than one solution.
Echo: The Doctor once called her an echo - that she lacked a shared history, knowledge and suffering for her to be considered a Time Lord. And it's true. She may have his DNA rearranged but Jenny knows nothing about herself, about her father's people. However, that won't stop her from wanting to know.

This was probably one of the most unpleasant experiences she’s ever had, right there under dying. All right if she was honest with herself she hasn’t had a lot of experiences to compare it to but being covered in some weird goop definitely wasn’t one of the more pleasant things she’s done in life. Jenny doesn’t even know what happened. One minute she’d been sitting behind the controls of her escape shuttle and next she woke up here, she may not know much but Jenny did know that this wasn’t right. Spilling out of some unknown machine covered in slime and mostly naked. Not remembering was the worst part of all of this. Thirty seconds exactly pass before Jenny even managed to attempt getting to her feet, mostly because she spent the time wiping goo from her face with her equally covered fingers.
First priority was to get clean. Luckily there were showers nearby and she took care not to slip all over the floor to get there. Okay, she could figure out how to work the showers it was easy. Turn the knobs and make it the right temperature. That wasn’t hard at all. As she’s scrubbing the blue stuff from her hair is when she noticed the mark on her arm, a series of numbers. An identification number is the thought her mind supplied. It’s not a pleasant thought that they were all labeled by numbers but it might make things easier around here. She had a name and she liked it. Donna had given it to her.
Jenny made an attempt to scrub it away but it still remained there so she left it alone and focused on getting clean as fast as she could. Excitement was starting to build. Wherever she was it was a new place to explore with new things to learn about. Maybe even a dangerous adventure to be had. It wasn’t hard to put together that her number was also on one of the lockers and opening it revealed her clothes. So this was how it was going to work, her number was like a passcode to open other things with the number. She dressed far more quickly than she showered, using her fingers to comb through her wet hair and pulling it back into a ponytail and deftly using a large piece to wrap around and secure the look. All that was left were clothes she didn’t recognize but the most interesting thing was the communication device. It looked a little bit like Donna’s so maybe she could use it to call someone.
Take the blue lift. Yeah, right. The passenger quarters sounded boring. It was time to deviate from the direction everyone else was heading and find her own way out of here. Her two hearts were beating faster in anticipation of being on an adventure in a strange unknown place by herself. There was no Doctor to guide her or give her advice on what to do. This was a child setting off into the great wide universe for the first time ever.

[Right, okay. She can do this. It's just a piece of technology and Jenny's good with that. The video clicks on to show a young woman with bright blond hair pulled into a ponytail and a plain olive green shirt. When she speaks it's with a decidedly British accent - for those that even know what that means.]
Hello, I'm Jenny. [She gives everyone a smile before turning her attention to more serious matters.]
So this is a ship, yeah? And we're traveling through space. That means there are planets then or is it just the three habitable ones I read about? Because I'd really like to visit one of them. It's why I left Messaline in the first place. I want to be able to walk on the surface of a different planet - or just any planet at all. Maybe find some adventures while I'm there.
[Don't...mind her babbling, she's excited.]
I mean there are billions of people on those planets. [Jenny's impressed. It's a lot of people for her.] There's got to be something interesting going on down there on at least one of them.
[She's just about to turn off the communicator when she remembers something.]
Also, I don't exactly know what happened to my escape shuttle so if it turns up let me know. I'd like it back, it's something I borrowed. And I'll help out where I can. I've got military training but I won't kill anyone. Sort of a...personal choice of mine. Turns out I'm also pretty good at piloting but I haven't got any sort of formal training for that. It just sort of came to me. Though I'd be willing to learn something new to work in any of the other departments.
[Okay, now she's done.]
Right, thanks.
