CHARACTER
Name: Kurosaki Hisoka
Series: Yami no Matsuei
Canon: OU
Age: 16
Timeline: Chapter 32: Before the Kyoto Arc
History:
Born into a prominent family Hisoka was the only child and heir of the Kurosaki family. He was taught to do all sorts of things such as kendo and archery but there was also something else. Hisoka is an empath, something that he sometimes acted on which was frowned upon by his family. They were so strict that when Hisoka used this ability they locked him away inside of a room. This was his life, at least it was until the age of thirteen when one fateful night when he couldn't sleep and left the house for a walk. Under the blood red moon Hisoka witnessed a woman being murdered. As the man didn't want any witnesses he took action against the young boy. Hisoka was brutally raped and cursed to suffer a slow death before having his memory of the night erased.
He returned to his life but became weaker as the years drew on until he was bedridden with pain constantly. Finally at the young age of sixteen Hisoka drew his last breath. Except it wasn't the end for him. After his death he heard talk of murder rather than the undiagnosable illness the doctors believed Hisoka decided to become a Shinigami - a Guardian of Death - to learn the secret of his death.
After his death he began working and was assigned to look into unnatural deaths in Nagasaki where he would meet up with his first partner. It’s a shame that he held his new partner at gunpoint thinking that he was the vampire responsible for all of the killing as he’d seen the man leave the scene of a recent crime. However the situation was cleared up by the Gushoshin who introduced them as new partners. With that done the three of them went eat where Hisoka learned that not only was his partner named Asato Tsuzuki but that he’d been lied to about Tsuzuki being an elite worker. It started a huge fight with ended with them drinking alcohol until Hisoka passed out.
As Hisoka slept his new partner found out the identity of the real vampire, a famous singer named Maria Wong. When they went to visit her the next day they both felt some strange feeling when they were near her. Maria’s overprotective stepmother scared them both away after that and returned to Meifu in order to do some research. It was there that they found a twist in the case and learned that Marie Wong was already dead. After having a group discussion Hisoka took off to investigate on his own but really he had a different agenda. When he failed to meet Tsuzuki at their scheduled time and place his partner came to find him as he attempted to access the restricted files to learn about his murderer. Tsuzuki made a grab for him but something seemed to attack and the older Shinigami started bleeding. It was then when Hisoka confessed about his empathy and how he could feel Tsuzuki’s anger building and dragging him down with it. While Tsuzuki said he wouldn’t tell about catching Hisoka near the forbidden files, he also said that partners were meant to keep each other in check. Then he left giving instructions to keep an eye on Maria.
Eventually his trailing led him to witness Maria moving to attack her next victim. Hisoka was surprised to see that it was Tsuzuki and that the man had laid a trap in order to catch her. They learned that Maria had taken her own life because her stepmother used her for fame and money, and also that her stepmother couldn’t let her go so she’d been brought back to life to continue singing. Maria’s stepmother arrived and Hisoka took Maria outside so Tsuzuki could talk with the vile woman. While the two talked inside, Hisoka tried to learn about the person who resurrected Maria but she couldn’t remember and passed out in his arms just as the man arrived. What happens between a doctor known as Muraki and Hisoka is unknown but Hisoka’s blood is splattered all over the walls and ceiling before he passes out and the doctor took him. Muraki taunted Tsuzuki while cradling Hisoka’s body in his arms, talking about how he was curious about the shinigami. The doctor makes his escape, kidnapping Hisoka in the process.
While in Muraki’s “care” there were several experiments done on Hisoka including bone breaking and removing marrow just to witness and document his healing abilities. When he questioned what the doctor wanted from him, Muraki said that he was only bait for Tsuzuki. It’s at this point in time when he’s allowed to remember what he saw three years ago – Muraki murdering a woman under the blood red moon, his own rape. Muraki confessed that he could have killed Hisoka then and there but it wouldn’t be a death fit for someone as beautiful as him. Then he watched at the curse slowly killed him over the next three years. Before Muraki could torture him much more Tsuzuki appeared to rescue him though he was in and out of consciousness for a little while until he completely woke up to Maria’s voice. He learned that Tsuzuki and Muraki were fighting as a fuda barrier protected the two of them though it soon broke and Hisoka covered Maria with his body but a very strong attack headed their way. At the last minute Tsuzuku placed himself between the pair and the attack, taking a serious injury to his spine. In order to continue fighting Tsuzuki asked to borrow some of his power even though it would mean he’d have to be in contact with the pain he was getting off of the older Shinigami. With their combined power they summoned one of the Twelve Gods - the Shikigami Suzaku – and the entire building collapsed from the attacks. Hisoka passed out at that point and was carried out by Tsuzuki who had healed quite a bit. After he healed Hisoka went to find his partner and confess that he became a shinigami because he knew he’d been killed and wanted to find his murderer. They decided to continue working together as partners.
Their next case consisted of a woman who had died in an accident but couldn’t seem to move on so they were sent to investigate. Tsuzuki got roped into being the woman’s dance partner for a competition that was two weeks away and he’d have to live there with her. As he was telling Hisoka this the woman came across them and he smoothly lied about being Tsuzuki’s little brother so she invited him to stay too. When the two weeks were up and they had their dance Hisae died in Tsuzuki’s arms but not before love was found.
From there they moved on to their next case where they were sent to retrieve a violin that has killed hundreds of people by sucking in their souls and getting them to commit suicide. They proceed to follow it to a musician by the name of Minase Hijiri (a boy who looks a lot like Hisoka, btw), who eventually tried to take his life but was rescued and brought to Meifu for treatment. According to their research the previous owner of the violin made a deal with a demon for musical talent and the signed pact was now Hijiri’s new cornea. Closer investigation revealed that the man signed over his young daughter’s life in order to become a good violinist and now that the cornea has been transplanted the deal still holds true. The demon wanted Hijiri dead in order to claim the young girl’s soul because she could see a demon’s true form. While they looked for ways to break the contract, Hijiri returned to school with Tsuzuki keeping an eye on him. Hijiri took in a stray dog but as it turned out the demon often took the form of a black dog and it began transforming, trying to tempt Hijiri to play the violin again. They made a plan to burn the violin to draw the demon out so they could destroy it and it worked – at least to a point. As it turned out the demon have infected Tsuzuki and had become parasitic during their fight in order to take over Tsuzuki’s body.
When Hisoka found out that Tsuzuki had been bitten by the demon he became suspicious and learned that he’d been taken over. So they set up a trap. That night the possessed Tsuzuki came to take Hijiri’s life and after coming on to him, pulled out a giant knife to plunge into the boy’s shoulder and down to his heart. Yet the demon didn’t stop there and proceeded to hack away at the boy. The contract was completed so the demon began using Tsuzuki’s abilities to attack the building in order to find the young girl just after Hisoka explained about the possession to the chief and other workers. Just as the demon demanded the little girl and claimed that Hijiri was dead he appeared as if brought back to life. Wait, it’s not Hijiri. It’s Hisoka that the demon killed. The pair performed the old switcharoo trick on the demon. Hisoka tried to perform a Reibaku meant to subdue the possessed Tsuzuki only to be stopped by Hijiri and have his own energy reflected back at him. It seemed as if Hisoka was dead for real and the other retreated behind a barrier. Just as the demon was about to fight the chief and Watari, once again Hisoka proved to be an admirable adversary as he showed up alive. Between Hisoka’s Reibaku and Hijiri’s words they were able to reach Tsuzuki deep inside of the demon and began separating the two of them. It was the end for the demon as soon as they were separated as Tsuzuki’s Shikigami destroyed it, the contract and several buildings were also destroyed in the process. When Hijiri woke he learned that the little girl had died protecting him and could not return home. With the case over Hijiri returned to his life although the trio visited when he had a concert where he played the Devil’s Trill with his own skills and talent.
Their next case involved disappearances from a cruise ship so they were sent to investigate undercover, Tsuzuki as a card dealer and Hisoka as the son of an illustrious family. As Hisoka was mingling with the other VIPs of the ship he heard a voice no one else could. It was Muraki beckoning him to come to him and Hisoka stumbled from the room only to bump into Tsubaki, the owner’s daughter. From her he learned that Muraki was still alive, was Tsubaki’s doctor and on the ship. Later that night there’s a commotion that drew the pair from their room and they opened another guest’s door only to find him dead inside. After an autopsy it’s concluded that the man was murdered and only those VIP guests on the floor could have been anywhere near the rooms, meaning one of them was the murderer. The next night while Hisoka played a game of poker against the doctor for Tsuzuki the fake dealer learned about the woman he replaced and an extra passenger with her name. He had the Gushoshin look into it while they slept. However, their sleep was interrupted at Tsubaki pounded on the door to show that she received a note from the killer and they discovered that Muraki was dead.
Two more people died including Tsubaki’s father and that night Hisoka saw memories of the woman named Irene while touching Tsubaki but he passed out as his curse grabbed hold of him. The next day they found a microchip hidden in one of the victim’s bracelet and it showed a blueprint of the ship with an “x” marked on it. While Tsuzuki went to investigate Hisoka went to see Tsubaki where he told her the truth of what happened between him and Muraki. Then he asked her about Irene and was told that she was a friend who used to visit Tsubaki and then was invited along to Hong Kong before disappearing. Meanwhile, Tsuzuki had an encounter with a man thought to be dead, Muraki had faked his death and Hisoka knew since he could smell the cologne on Tsuzuki’s clothes. When they went back to investigate the storage area, they found a hidden room filled with the remains of the missing people.
Returning to their floor they heard a yell and when they found the cause they were shocked. Tsubaki was choking a passenger, though she claimed that she was actually Irene. As it turned out Irene had been an unwilling heart-donor for Tsubaki and Muraki used drugs in order to create a second personality – to create Irene to kill all of the people who had wronged her. Muraki would not let any evidence survive so not only did he shoot Tsubaki but he also planted a bomb on the ship to sink the whole thing while he escaped on his helicopter. Hisoka stayed behind with the dying Tsubaki where she revealed that she knew about the experiments but because she loved Muraki she allowed them. When he tried to confess his feelings she shut him down, telling him to tell someone worthy before asking him to kill her. Later in the rescue copter Hisoka confessed that he shot her with Muraki’s gun, allowing Tsuzuki to see his grief for the very first time and truly letting him in.
Some time later the department gets a winter vacation to Hokkaido with some of the other people. Hisoka has the misfortune to meet two girls who have a tendency to cling to people and invade their space, especially new people. They hung off of him while they were at the hot springs inn although he did manage to get a bath all by himself as he didn’t want to soak with the old men. However, Tsuzuki just can’t stay out of trouble and is approached by three servants of the Snow Queen. They’re told that the queen is missing and they offer to help search for her. In the end it turned out that the queen found a frozen treat and decided to sneak off to eat it but the thing was so terrible that she passed out. It’s really a shame that Tsuzuki is a horrible cook.
Next came the New Year and with it a competition between different divisions, an archery competition. Hisoka was asked to participate in it for their sector as he was taught how along with several other traditional sporting activities. Not only did he meet the opposing team but also more who worked in their sector including Terazuma who absolutely despises Tsuzuki. He learned that Terazuma turned into a giant dog-like creature whenever he was touched by a girl and his partner had the ability to change him back. By sheer luck (even though the other team cheated) they managed to win and won twenty days paid vacation.
Their next mission is at an all-boys Catholic school where a student died in a strange way - marks all over his body, two fingers removed and then thrown into the sea. They are sent to retrieve the soul that had not left the Earth yet and come to the Underworld and to discover the cause of it. Hisoka is enrolled as a student while Tsuzuki took the place of a priest that had died due to a heart attack. It doesn’t take long to learn that the priest had actually been murdered with poison and that it was impossible to get a body into the sea from where it had been thrown. As it turned out one of the teachers was having a physical relationship with one of his students and another student was in love with the same teacher. The student had hurt and finally killed himself as the male-male relationship was against their beliefs and the teacher had poisoned the last priest after confessing his sins. Yet there was something else at work underneath the surface, a demon had come to the school and it had laid a trap for Tsuzuki who was a potential candidate to become a new leader in the demon world due to a previous case where he’d killed one. In the end the demon was defeated but the teacher and two students were both dead.
During spring they were invited to a sakura blooming tea party by Hakushaku, the keeper of the Castle of Candles where human lives are kept and monitored. Several members attended and it’s here that Hisoka learned that Tsuzuki was once partnered with the division’s secretary but the conversation started a fight. Tsuzuki ran off and got sucked inside of a book that was writing itself. The characters were the people of their division but the worst thing was that there was no way to get Tsuzuki out of the book. He’d be stuck there until he died, or least that’s what they thought until Watari showed he was capable of pulling people out of drawings and pulled Tsuzuki out. In the end it helped Tsuzuki and Tatsumi’s relationship, while Hisoka was just an observer for the most part.
After that came summer of course and the library that had been destroyed by Tsuzuki when he was possessed had finally been rebuilt. Unfortunately for everyone Hisoka had not been sleeping well which makes him very easily irritable so when he came to return a book he’d held onto while it was being rebuilt it did not bode well for Tsuzuki and Terazuma when they started fighting. Together they not only destroyed the brand-new library but they were both scolded harshly and cruelly by Hisoka. At least right up until he passed out and had to be taken home by Tsuzuki. Once again Tsuzuki was forced to pay for the damages caused by working for free alongside Terazuma.
Personality: (What is the character like? This section needs to be at least one paragraph.)
Abilities/Additional Notes:
Hisoka is first and foremost an empath, a strong one at that. He can not only feel the emotions of those around him but also sometimes read thoughts or see memories. All of it becomes even stronger through touch, anger being something he'd rather not get too close to as it tends to backlash at him, which is why he avoids it as much as possible. Not only can he get all of this from people but also from inanimate objects with clairvoyance. As he was the only heir to the Kurosaki Family Line he was trained with both a sword and a bow and arrow, both of which he can use quite well. After his death Hisoka was trained to use both basic ofuda and defensive magic.
It's important to note that Hisoka died a slow painful death as he was cursed by Muraki and the curse still lingers even now. Every time he has an encounter with the Doctor the curse marks appear on his skin, especially while in his dreams. Most likely due to the curse still being in effect Hisoka isn't well even though he's dead and he suffers from both extreme heat and fainting spells.
Now as a Shinigami he can become invisible and silent to the human eye and fly. It's also become harder to kill him seeing as how he's already dead but it is possible. Hisoka also has extreme healing abilities that make any sort of injury heal faster than an average human would. Shinigami are also capable of moving between the human world and Meifu (the Underworld or Hell) but obviously that won't be possible seeing as how he's stuck. He has no weapons except his toy water gun, just a few ofuda.
Third-Person Sample:
There was something - something evil lurking in this place. Between the information from the other guests of the condominiums and his own ability it wasn't hard to figure out what it was. Spirits lingered here, haunted the place where they had died and couldn't move on. He hadn't seen any ghosts or even seen anything unusual but there was the sense that he was being watched and more importantly, the feeling that he wasn't alone and the only dead thing in the building. Whoever they were, they certainly didn't have good intentions. No, these spirits were malevolent and sooner or later they would strike out on those who trespassed on their ground.
A strong sense practically overwhelmed him as he strolled down the hallway of his floor, so powerful that he had to stop and lean against the wall. Feelings of anger always seemed to smother his own emotions, drag him down into them. Hisoka wanted to lash out but he didn't know which direction to point it in. "Leave me alone!" He didn't care if the woman down the hall looked at him like he was crazy as whoever it was watching seemed to back off.
Free from the terrible emotions Hisoka sank to the floor, attempting to even out his breathing and separate himself from the rest of the world. Or at the very least, grab onto some sense of self before he continued his investigation. Perhaps this wasn't a good idea. He'd never truly been on his own on a case before and this really wasn't even their area of the world to interfere with.
After a few moments he was ready to keep moving and got to his feet. "If someone doesn't do something about the spirits then surviving here will be difficult." With his mind set Hisoka was on his way, hoping that eventually Tsuzuki or even another Shinigami would show up because something had to be done.
First-Person Sample Post:
[See blond boy. See blond boy sitting in his apartment at the computer looking rather bored.] I don't suppose anyone has any information about what this location was before it was condos, do they? If you do I'd like to hear it.
[Hisoka pauses as he looks out the window and leans back in his chair.] Does anyone else get the creepy feeling that they're being watched? And I don't mean when these things turn on. Or that there's someone else in the hallway but when you look there's no one there? [He doesn't want to out-right say that he can sense something.]
