PERSONALITY:

A long, long time ago in a galaxy far away....

There was a man named Qui-Gon Jinn who just so happened to be a Jedi.

As a Jedi he's been taught to accept and let go of his emotions but that doesn't mean he doesn't have them. Most of the time he gives off this calm, collected vibe to everyone he meets that can put people at ease. Especially when he wants to. It helps during those missions where tensions run high and need a soothing balm. He focuses on the task at hand and it helps him see solutions or things others might not. Qui-Gon can remain calm even when up against an angry, violent being. However, do not mistake him for someone who easily bends to the will of others. He is no pushover who allows himself to be bullied into giving in to demands. Knowing when to bend and when to stand firm is something he's very experienced in. While his size gives him a physical advantage to not being bullied, Qui-Gon knows is all about attitude as well. He has no need to raise his voice or get violent to negotiate his way out of every hostile situation.

Though that doesn't mean he won't use violence if there is no other option. There is no way he's going to stand by while they're being fired upon or when innocent lives are at risk. Again, he knows when to fight and when to retreat - not feeling any shame if he does have to escape. To him, the life of others is more important than his own, especially innocent ones and he will fight to defend them. Qui-Gon, like most Jedi, can learn to accept his death if necessary - to embrace it and quickly if the need calls for it. However, that doesn't mean he wants to die or will needlessly sacrifice himself. He is a firm believer in searching for another way for everyone to live. Though he has seen quite a bit of death in his time and while it rattles him to see, Qui-Gon can push that aside to do what needs to be done.

As his Padawan can confirm, Qui-Gon can be rather aloof at times. Pushing away those that are close to him with his silence and bluntness. At first this used to drive Obi-Wan crazy, and still sort of does but now he's learned that when Qui-Gon is ready to tell him what's on his mind then he will. He can withdraw into himself when stressing over something and forget to take care of himself to the point where someone else needs to point out that he needs to eat or sleep. It doesn't help that he's a very stubborn man, wanting to get things done his way rather than leave it to someone else. He has a hard time working with someone, used to giving instructions and not having to consult someone else. Especially when it comes to other Jedi Knights and their Padawans, though he is getting better at it. Qui-Gon disapproves when Obi-Wan doesn't do as he's been told, often resulting in him being harder on the boy than necessary.

This stems from his insecurities. Due to the fact that his last Padawan betrayed both him and the Jedi by turning to the Dark Side, it was hard for him to let any other young Jedi in. For years he turned away potential Padawans, unable to let go of the idea that he had failed to notice what others had in his apprentice. That self-doubt has often reared its head in his bond with Obi-Wan, causing him to second-guess his decisions when it comes to the boy. It was especially hard at the beginning when Obi-Wan started to pull away from him before outright disobeying him. Since then he has realized his mistake in forcing the other to choose one life or the other, forgiven him and they repaired their bond. He can be a bit hard on his Padawan, but it's because he sees so much of himself in Obi-Wan.

Xanatos had certainly left his mark on Qui-Gon's life, other than his reluctance to take a new apprentice for years. He wasn't something the Knight could just let go of. It's actually one of the many things he's defied the Council about - going after Xanatos when he haven't been given permission. In the end, though, with the man's death Qui-Gon finally found acceptance in all the events that occurred during their time together. He has been able to leave Xanatos in the past while not forgetting the mistakes learned and can now move forward with his new Padawan. Obi-Wan's stubbornness and selflessness also played a huge part in healing the scars left behind.

Most of the Jedi know of his tendency to go against the Council's wishes. Generally this occurs when he has a strong opinion or emotion on the matter at hand. While he knows that the Council wants what's best, he is not the sort who can just sit back on his hands and accept an opinion he doesn't agree with. This leads to defiance, going against their wishes, taking missions they don't approve of. Yet, in the end he always comes back to the Temple instead of striking out on his own. That's because it's where his loyalties lie even if they don't always agree on a course of action to take. Once a person has his trust, it's hard to break even though it's not always easy to gain. He does look up to the members of the Council, especially Yoda - the master of his master. When he's conflicted he will go to him, though not always because he knows that he'll hear something he may not want to.

Despite all of his faults, Qui-Gon can be quite kind to absolute strangers. Over the years his Padawan has often questioned how he always seems to make friends with or go along with people who seem a bit shady. It didn't start there though, this actually went all the way back to his own Padawan days. Bringing back the ones that seem untrustworthy or 'lesser' lifeforms. While it annoyed his own master, and even Obi-Wan at first who couldn't see what he did, his Padawan has seen that they can be very useful and loyal during their missions.

Due to his upbringing as a Jedi he is very humble. Material things aren't important to him, he never boasts about his skills and he respects everyone he comes across. He has learned that observing another culture is rather an important aspect, whether it be a simple greeting or his passion for studying the planets to just know more. This is something he tries to instill in his own Padawan as it's very important. Of course, Qui-Gon is as much as student as he is a teacher. The life lessons he's learned in his experiences he attempts to pass on to Obi-Wan, even if they need to be lived through to be fully understood. He is, of course, training his Padawan for the day when he'll become a Jedi Knight and take on missions alone. Already he's seen that Obi-Wan has taken his lessons and applied them to his life, which makes him rather proud of his apprentice.

Qui-Gon seems to have an endless supply of patience, even when dealing with the most frustrating of people. Obi-Wan has marveled at it but truth be told, it's not endless. While he can maintain the facade of being patient one must know him pretty well to tell it apart from actual patience. Then there are times when it becomes impossible to hide so he openly keeps himself busy or lets it out. Sometimes in harsh and rude ways. There is a light side to Qui-Gon, one that happens between the seriousness of the missions they undertake and sometimes during them. He's been known to tease or make jokes - sometimes with a completely straight face. It especially shows around those he's most comfortable with such as friends or his Padawan.

Over the years he formed a strong bond with Tahl, another Jedi Knight that he had grown up with. In fact, he was rather attached to her and often put her safety above that of everything else. It wasn't until sometime later that he realized the extent of his feelings for her - he loved her. He confessed to her and she returned them, so they decided that they would continue their lives together, not caring that the Council would disapprove. However, their love was short-lived as she died shortly after - not just died but was killed.

So deep was his grief that Qui-Gon nearly gave into his darker feelings and killed someone in revenge. He pushed everyone aside, shut everyone out in order to track down the one responsible. While he was aware that he often walked the fine line, he didn't stop until the man responsible lay at his feet with his lightsaber poised to strike. Fortunately it was just in time before he crossed a line he would never be able to come back from. However, it did nothing to ease his grief and he continued to mourn Tahl's death for some time after. Everything reminded him of her and Qui-Gon just could not let it go, continuing to shut out everyone - even his Padawan. It took seeing and attempting to ease the grief in another before he could allow himself to start the healing process.

Due to his close brush with the Dark Side of the Force he is fully aware of what it can do to him. Yes, it can make him feel stronger and more powerful but he's had first-hand experience of just how dangerous it is. While he saw it and felt it in his old Padawan, Xanatos, it's very different from having experienced it for himself. Qui-Gon has always known how dangerous the Dark Side is and how tempting, that it can blind a person with their hate, rage and fear. Now he knows it for certain and practices much more strict control over those emotions then he had in the past.

Now Obi-Wan is seventeen and beginning to surpass Qui-Gon in so many ways. At first he was reluctant to let go and allow his Padawan lead their missions but he does realize that it is an important step to growing. While they have had a rocky start to their relationship, Qui-Gon trusts his apprentice - not just with his life but also with the lives of others. He knows that Obi-Wan will become a better Jedi than he is but he also senses that they will not be able to be comrades instead of Master and Padawan. There have also been moments when he catches flashes of Obi-Wan as an old man living a lonely life with only his dark memories.

At heart, Qui-Gon is a teacher. Not just with his own Padawan as he often takes time to impart advice and wisdom on others as well. Sometimes it just happens without him really thinking on it too much. Yet he also knows that he's a student, always learning something from the people around him. As a Jedi he must keep his mind open to all sorts of possibilities and to different lifestyles/cultures and often accept them. Often the missions he goes on teaches him something even if he doesn't realize it right away.

ABILITIES:

Da Force.

Okay, no seriously. Qui-Gon has been taught to connect to the Living Force that lives in all things. By reaching out he can sharpen his senses, boost his physical abilities, sense the most subtle of changes in an opponents movement, move objects, form mental bonds with others. It can also help with healing, bend the mind of weak-willed lifeforms, sedate a being, sense the darkness inside of a person. Qui-Gon has shown to be capable of all of these particular abilities. He also has prophetic dreams on occasion, though he doesn't dwell on them and instead prefers to live in the moment. He is one of the few who has discovered that the Force could grant near-immortality by becoming a Force-ghost after his death thanks to the help of a shaman. Though he has yet to need it at this point and he won't be able to thanks to the quick revival in this game.

His most notable bond is the Master-Padawan one, that allows them to convey "messages" across a great distance. There aren't any actual words involved the context of these messages is often clear. It's a strong one, capable of being used to alert the other of danger. While his with his own master has been severed, Qui-Gon has become a master himself and formed a bond with his Padawan, Obi-Wan Kenobi. Qui-Gon is capable of blocking this bond and has in the past when he shut everyone out.

Due to spending nearly his entire life with the Jedi, Qui-Gon is also capable of wielding a lightsaber. In fact, he was one of the few who could stand on equal ground with Mace Windu. He preferred and mastered the Ataru style, two-handed wide but powerful swings. He'd also been taught how to pilot various types of crafts, though usually he leaves it to either their pilot or his apprentice. Though his knowledge of ships do help when he needs to sneak on and hide. He is also capable of fluently speaking several languages, not that they'll do him any good because I'm sure very few speak it.

It should be known that some think Qui-Gon is a Gray Jedi. That is a Jedi who walks between the Light and Dark sides of the Force. Not only are his methods a bit unorthodox but he does go against the Council's orders from time-to-time though he is generally loyal. There have been instances where he's allowed the darker emotions to take over and nearly lost himself to the Dark Side. It has changed him even though he stopped before killing in revenge.
