Background Information:
His birth came mere moments after his twin sister’s, Shalana. This was an abnormality in the Storm Clan and from that moment on one of them was destined to become the next leader. Shalana and Dousuke’s mother was killed in childbirth and so they grew up motherless but it never seemed to bother them. Their father was bitter and resentful for the fact that they killed their mother and distanced himself from them. This means they were mostly taken care of by other villagers in those very early years. However, as the younger child, Dousuke eventually was shunned by those same villagers. There were whispers that he was considered the 'useless and weak twin', so while Shalana may have had it relatively easy, the same could not be said for her brother. For twins destined to one day go up against each other, they got along fairly well. Eventually, a pair of Fire Clan children came to their village and the four of them became fast friends. It didn’t matter to the twins any of the whispers that surrounded the new orphans; they still stuck around and ignored anyone who bad-mouthed their new companions. Shalana began to have feelings for Kurakai and those feelings seemed to be reciprocated. When Kurakai and Dousuke went off to do things by themselves, his sister and Kai’s sister, Selestia would hang out together in their absence.

In their early years, there was an incident where a near-death experience happened while he and Kai were attempting to learn how to swim. A group of bullies came around and they decided to play a prank on the brothers this time instead of their sisters. It wasn't really a great idea as Dousuke freaked out when he mistook a plant that looked way too much like a poisonous snake-creature called dotrumus. He lost his head in the situation after seeing it so close to his friend and lightning shot through the water, nearly killing Kai seeing as how his friend couldn't absorb electricity like the Storm Clansmen could. The Fire member lost consciousness and when he awoke, Kai didn’t remember anything. Dousuke never told him of what happened but silently vowed to always look after the younger man. When the twins were about ten, Shalana started to absorb his power, not that either of them noticed at the time. Over the next twenty years the four of them were inseparable, though there was a huge rift between Kai and his sister. As time went by, Shalana and Kai both seemed to develop feelings for each other and Dousuke noticed. It made him jealous, not because it would mean that Kai would spend less time with him but because he had his own feelings for his friend. Though he never said anything about it, leaving Kai to wonder why he'd sometimes snap at them both. Unlike his sister, Dousuke was a little more content to just be able to stick close to the person he loved. Near the end of this period of their life, Shalana asked Kai to date her but after a day of thinking about it, he refused. Even this wasn’t capable of breaking apart the quartet. Years later, Dousuke and Selestia asked Kai why he turned her down and he simply replied that he had a bad feeling.

Another ten years passed before things started to get strained inside their little group. Shalana began to act strangely and after another five, she began calling herself “Shea” instead. Around the age of fifty, they both realized that Shalana was absorbing his power. Not only that, but she began to do it on purpose. This caused Dousuke to disappear from her life as if she ever took it all - that would mean his death. He started traveling to avoid her and Dousuke would visit different villages. When the twins were fifty-six, Kai returned to his Fire Clan village where he was to bond with the Water Clan’s daughter but an unfortunate fate befell her on the day after their bonding ceremony. Dousuke came out of his seclusion in order to witness the ceremony and filled the role of "best man". At the time, they couldn’t find a reason for it. The leader of the Water Clan, Layamon, began to search for an answer for his daughter’s unusual death and discovered Kai’s curse.

It took Shalana three more years before she went extremely crazy. The first time they realized it was when she tried to kill Selestia just for the sake of catching Kai’s attention. His best friend almost killed his sister in retaliation but stopped because they had been friends for such a long time and there were still feelings between them. After that, Kai threw himself into his work becoming quite infamous for being a ‘bounty hunter’. It helped with the whole Shalana mess and the fact that Selestia wasn’t talking to him. So it was quite the surprise when Shalana threatened all of the people Kai cared about unless he married her after five years of silence. He agreed to it only because his curse would kill her for him, but Shalana was too smart for that. As it turned out, she already knew about his curse and when she realized that he did too, Shalana lashed out – violently. Kai was left in critical condition and laid up for two weeks in order to recover. Selestia and Kai became close again after that, though she revealed that it wasn’t about anything he’d done and instead she’d been researching the Fire Clan and Kai’s curse.

The next few decades of Dousuke's life was filled with flitting all around the world in an attempt to keep away from his sister. Not that they were on terrible terms with each other but simply because one day, one would kill the other just from absorbing the other's power. Plus Shalana was kind of insane and stuck on making Kai hers, it was something he wasn't ready to get in the middle of yet though Dousuke spent more time with his friend then his sister. He became an experienced traveler but there were things he'd do while out on his own. One was that he began to investigate the curse that surrounded the Fire Clan. Due to his inability to read, much of his information had to come from word-of-mouth instead of whatever books might have held clues. More than that, Dousuke jumped from one job to another. For a few years he'd hunt animals or fish before moving on to farming or cooking. There was even a point in his life where he'd tried his hand at such things such as: basket weaving, pottery, blanket making, leathery, and even spent time as a blacksmith's apprentice. Due to this, he's something of a jack-of-all-trades when it comes to the tasks out there in his world. Sometimes Dousuke would spend more time at one job or another if it caught his interest enough while others he moved on before an entire year could pass. There were even times when he would accompany Kai in hunting down those sentenced to trial or death. Of course, then there were the instances when he would just drag his best friend out to some remote village to check something out but only to land them both in trouble.

More recently, Shalana pulled a nasty stunt of bringing back Kai and Selestia’s father back from the dead – though Tekaki was nothing more than a puppet. Kai, in his rage, attacked Shalana despite Dousuke’s attempt to calm his friend down. With his own power added to his sister’s, she was more than a match for the powerful Fire Clan member. This was the first time that he actively took sides in the fight between the two and Dousuke used his own ability to knock her down in order to free Kai. Shalana took this personally, though she was hardly bothered by the fact that her weaker brother was now her enemy. So their bond as siblings was broken in her madness but it’s hard to say who took it worse – Dousuke, Shalana or Kai. When his sister threatened not just Selestia’s life but to let her watch those she loved again, Kai lost it and lunged at Shalana. If it weren’t for Tekaki holding a blade to the younger male’s throat, maybe he would have snapped Shalana’s neck and rid them of so many future problems. After Kai walked away unscathed, Dousuke made one last attempt to talk to his sister out her madness but she refused to listen. That was the very moment that he turned his back on her and essentially shattered the bond Shalana had broken.

When he managed to catch up with Kai, Selestia was with him. Dousuke stayed quiet for a while to just listen to them but when the pair of them started planning what they would do, he chimed in. He wouldn’t leave his best friend to fight her alone, even if Shalana had been someone he cared about. While he didn’t have any ideas about how to deal with her – he knew someone who might. Layamon did have some thoughts but not about how to fight her. Instead, he told them about a technique that would mean they crossed the portal into the human world and there they could merge with a human as another means of hiding from her. Neither Dousuke nor Kai were very fond of that idea but the young Storm Clansman continued to listen even after his friend walked out. When he found Kai later, they had a conversation about Dousuke involving himself against the fight against Shalana. This was the point that he told Kai that he loved him and that wherever the red-head went, so did he.

Futureverse

-His best friend faces Shalana the next day and she very nearly kills him. Kai proceeds to go through the portal and Dousuke doesn’t hear from him for a few weeks so he follows Kai into the human world. All he found was Kai’s necklace and way too much blood everywhere for anyone to survive without some kind of assistance.

-He goes to confront his sister where she mocks him for being unable to save Kai and mortally wounds him too. Dousuke goes back through the portal happens on a young boy called Ki-Ran. In order to stay alive, he merges with the boy.

-Years later, Ki-Ran and Val (the guy Kai merged with) meet up and become friends. They go through the portal only to be captured by Shea (and she really is Shea instead of Shalana at this point, even to Dousuke). She forces Layamon to separate the humans from the Clansmen, which nearly kills the humans in the process.

-Shea kills Layamon after he attempts to help the humans back through the portal. Kai flips out and burns flora, fauna and Clansmen alike.

-Kai and Dousuke help the humans defeat an evil king as pawns of the gods. In return, the humans try to kill Shea a few weeks later but she kills Val and eventually Ki-Ran.

-Wonder twin wars are over when Shea finally absorbs what’s left of Dousuke’s powers. This kills him and Kai freaks out again. Five villages and three forests suffer before the goddess Yinari shows up and offers to snatch Dousuke back from a different time and even throws in Layamon as a bonus so they can help kill Shea.

-Kai doesn’t believe it so Yinari brings them back anyway to shove it in his face. But the cycle of death continues and Selestia goes next. Yinari won’t bring her back though and whoops, there’s go Kai again.

-They play the most epic game of hide-and-seek with Shea that lasts for years but when they catch up with her, the gods throw salt in their wounds by giving her the power to control time and space. The gods basically say "screw Yinari".

-Kai pisses Shea off and literally everything explodes. The end.

-JUST KIDDING! What you thought it was over? No, it’s not tragic enough yet.

-Welcome to an alternate universe where Shea and Kai are on the same side. Eventually he starts to believe it thanks to some brand new memories. Great, two completely insane people to deal with.

-Yinari shows up fifty years later, thanks to some bitch gods interfering with her attempts to fix shit. That’s when she enlists Douske’s help to kill a bitty Kai just after he’s already been resurrected once by a younger Layamon. Yes, wonderful. Kill the one person you love more than anything before the two of you can ever meet. Good thing you get to go back to being dead after this and don’t have to remember it, Dousuke. :(

-We all wish that was the ending, but instead he marries Selest to solidify the alliance between the Storm and Fire Clans. They can reminisce about Kai, whom they both remember. At one point Kai's ghost appears to Dousuke and apologizes for not being able to love him the way he wanted. Yeah. Blame Alex for that. :\

Personality Description:
Ever since he was younger, Dousuke always knew that his time alive was limited. There was always the legend of twins he had to go against and Shalana was the stronger of them. This is exactly why he tries to live each day to the fullest, including exploring the world and trying everything he can. He tries to not let things bother him; like the fact that his sister is draining the life out of him or that the villagers whisper terrible things when he’s around - except it’s not as easy as he’d like it to be. While he might have a smile or kind expression for someone, it might be hiding something deeper. To anyone who doesn’t know him very well, they might not suspect that there’s anything wrong because he’s been hiding some of his emotions for a very long time and has become rather skilled at it. He’s perfected the face that he shows to the world.

Due to this, some might think that Dousuke is a fairly friendly guy and while it may be true that he can hold polite conversations to make it seem that way, he’s not exactly out looking to make friends with everyone. Talking to new people is something he finds enjoyable but it won’t make them instant friends. It will take more than a few conversations for that to happen. He can’t simply trust someone he hasn’t known for very long. That isn’t how it’s done. Part of it does come from the fact that most of the people in his village wanted nothing to do with him - including his own father. There were also times when he was bullied, though it wasn’t nearly as often as it was with his sister. Another reason for it is because all of his traveling means that long-term friendships are a little difficult to maintain when he doesn’t intend to stay or return much. Trusting people isn’t easy for him either so even if it may seem that these things are happening, chances are that they’re all one-sided on the other’s half.

However, if there is someone that he wants to befriend they should be prepared for it because there isn’t anything that’s going to stop him. It wouldn’t matter if they attempt to push him away since Dousuke isn’t easily dissuaded. Once someone has his loyalty, it would take a lot for him to betray them or let them get rid of him. This is part of why he and Kai have been friends all of these years. He won’t give up on the other person, fighting for their relationship for as long as he can. Seriously, this is also seen in his relationship with his sister. Dousuke might have spent years running away from her, but he never once turned his back on her completely. It didn’t matter that she hurt Kai, tried to kill Selest or even purposely drained his own power; she was still his sister that he cared for. He wasn’t ready to give up on her - not until it really did come down to choosing between her and Kai. Despite the level of his loyalty, he will trade all of it in if it’s for Kai. No one has Dousuke’s devotion like his best friend so there would be no hesitation to do what was best for the Fire Clansman if the situation came down to it. Everyone else can consider themselves screwed if he’s forced to choose between them and Kai. That’s just how deep his devotion goes.

He’s also a very passionate individual, in relationships and in general, life. Sex is a meaningful thing to him so even if Dousuke can’t be with the one he’s with, he’ll make it as good as it can get with anyone. Though it will never turn into any kind of relationship, it will certainly be memorable. If there was ever that level of commitment with someone, he would be the type of person who kept their relationship fun and exciting - both in bed and out of it. He’s the sort who takes an interest in something and is very passionate about it. This is why there are so many things that he’s tried in his lifetime when it comes to jobs. Dousuke enjoys the tasks he decides to take on and it shows when performing them, he also enjoys watching other people work on their craft. It’s like looking at a piece of art.

But this is also the reason why he’s had so many jobs in the past that range from cooking to crafting. He may stick with one thing for a few years but will jump on to another that catches his attention. This is actually a trait that those of his clan all share so no one in his world is really surprised when suddenly they wake up only to find Dousuke gone from their village. They’re well-known from jumping from one trade to another on their whims. Much like the wind he manipulates, Dousuke goes wherever his heart takes him. It’s no surprise that it always leads him back to Kai. Despite being so taken with his best friend, he does have a life of his own - one that the Fire Clansman doesn’t really know about. He doesn’t talk about what he does when they’re apart and Kai never asks, no matter how passionate he is about the things he’s been doing since they last got together.

Of course his life of jumping from one thing to another does make him appear a little flighty to others. It’s true that Dousuke will probably never settle on any one thing (outside of that one person) but he honestly doesn’t mind this lifestyle. Living this way allows him to see so much of the world and gives him the opportunity to do everything he wants before his life is over. While there are those of his Clan who live like this do this because they’re prosperous, he does it because he knows that he won’t live forever. Hell, Dousuke might not even live to see half of a normal lifespan. Being viewed as flighty or aimless doesn’t really bother him either. It’s his life and he’ll live it the way he wants to. He doesn’t have any real goals for his life either. There’s no serious determination to settle down with the one he cares for, get bonded, have children and all that stuff. The only thing he wants is to protect Kai and he’s stuck by that since they were kids. Everything else is just something to pass the time and keep him entertained. If that makes him look irresponsible then so be it.

Living this way has its consequences and there’s no doubt about that Dousuke has been in trouble before. Usually he causes the trouble. The phrase “more trouble than he’s worth” is very true to a lot of people because of his lifestyle. There might be a few who don’t think that way but those are only people he’s close to. Though, Kai has probably even thought this way from time-to-time about his best friend. Chances are that there are a few villages he’s been banned from going back to because of the trouble he got into. He’s probably even gotten his acquaintances into trouble too simply because they got involved with him. However, just being part of the Storm Clan doesn’t mean that other Clansmen will outright avoid him. It’s simply part of who they are as a people. There is one trait that completely belongs to Dousuke and that’s his dislike for mornings. He doesn’t like having to get up early if he can help it, even if his “super-clansman” senses may make it impossible sometimes. If he does get up early for one reason or another, there’s a good chance that he’ll be grumpy about it - though if the reason is important enough he can get over it.

One of his main personality traits is his stubbornness. When it comes to Kai, this is actually a very good thing because without it - they might not have become such good friends. Kai’s stubbornness is on a level all by itself, so that means that those who would want to become his friend have to have their own stubbornness in order to get close enough. He has no hesitation in telling Kai how things are going to be or sticking with his best friend when things are tough. Of course, this stubborn nature doesn’t just stop with Kai - it can apply to everyone. It’s most prominent when it involves Kai or he butts heads with someone just as hardheaded as he is. Once an idea crosses his mind, chances are rare that he’s going to just let it drop. Combine his stubbornness with his snark and it can be a weapon all in itself. He isn’t afraid to be a little rude with his straight-forwardness or even a bit sarcastic with his words. Dousuke will often battle stubbornness with snark - something that’s become a habit after dealing with his best friend all of his life. Perhaps it’s because he’s more in tune with what the other person might need instead of focusing on what they might say. Words are a way to put up barrier that people use to distance themselves from others - either to protect themselves or the other person. He’s capable of seeing through that protection to what the person really needs rather than what they think might be best. It’s Dousuke’s choice to get involved with someone and he won’t let the other person decide what’s best for him.

He can also be a bit of a tease at times. There’s no harm in a little bit of teasing someone just so long as he doesn’t take it too far. Dousuke is always careful to rein it in before it turns into something harmful to the other person. While he might not form bonds that easily, it’s also not his intent to hurt someone with his words or attitude. There’s a big difference in being slightly playful and intending to actually someone with his words. In general, he’s just a nice person. Even though he’s not outright friendly, Dousuke is simply a kind individual - maybe too nice at times. His kind nature can be the source of much guilt for other people - especially in the case of Kai (because really, a lot of his life revolves around Kai). Dousuke’s deserves to live happily with the one he loves in the Fire Clansman’s opinion but his feelings prevent him from that life. Kai thinks Dousuke’s much too kind to spend forever tied to someone like him and therefore; it causes guilt. Of course, this doesn’t matter to Dousuke just so long as he can stay by his friend’s side forever - yet another source of guilt for Kai. This kind of guilt is something other people can experience - especially those self-sacrificing shonen heroes.

For the exciting life he leads, Dousuke is a surprisingly calm individual. Growing up in a rough world, persecuted by his village has given him a demeanor that allows him to remain calm in tough situations. While he’s not above expressing himself when something terrible happens and can lose his head in certain situations, they’d have to be extreme. When forced to choose between his sister and his love, there wasn’t any hysterics or panic - Dousuke was fairly calm throughout the entire thing. However, if someone he cares about is in danger of dying they might see him panic a little bit. It doesn’t seem like there’s a lot that can rattle this particular man.

This calm nature extends to killing people. His longest “job” is being a bounty hunter alongside Kai. Sometimes this means that he has to take a life. Dousuke, as a long-distance hunter, doesn’t have to get close to his target and so he never has to see the face of a dying person but it still doesn’t shake him. Dealing with dead bodies is something he’s become accustomed to, as well. All of that can change if he has to kill someone he cares about though. It’s part of why he’s never killed or been reluctant to see Shalana dead, even after everything. Just because he’s willing to take the life of someone it that doesn’t mean that he can kill anyone. They have to deserve it for it to not weigh on his conscious. Hurting or killing innocent people is something that doesn’t sit right with him, part of that kindness of his. He will feel guilty if he’s forced to do either of these things and hopes it won’t come to it. Of course, Dousuke isn’t willing to let anyone kill him either. There will be no hesitation to protect himself if they attack him first, though chances are - if he likes them or thinks them a victim of some sort of madness - he’ll run away before he has to kill them. Getting hurt by them isn’t such a big deal when he has the ability to heal himself with his powers.

Now, this wouldn’t be complete without bringing up Dousuke’s childhood experience. When learning how to swim an accident occurred that caused him to nearly kill his best friend and one of the effects it had on him was to become completely loyal to Kai. He’ll protect him no matter what the situation. But that’s not the only effect it caused. Dousuke now actually has a fear concerning water - aquaphobia. It’s not something he can control at all. While taking baths or being by water is not a problem, being fully submerged does cause him to panic. This is why he’s never learned to swim or avoids getting into anything that floats on the water. He will completely avoid getting in a river, lake or sea if he can help it. So if the cities flood, Dousuke is shit out of luck. Another strange thing about him is that he’s terrible with animals. All animals - even cute and fluffy ones. His idea animal is a dog that just sits there quietly, but really there aren’t many dogs like that. Dousuke tolerates cats simply for Kai’s sake but he honestly has no idea what to do with an animal. Honestly, he’d prefer hunting them for food rather than keeping one as pet.

Important Relationships

Kurakai: Some might think that Dousuke and his twin sister should be the closest two people can be, but that’s not true at all. The one he cares about the most is his best friend, Kurakai. Actually, he’s been in love with Kai since they were young and just never said anything about it. Starting out they were just good friends, as good as Kai would let them be since Dousuke often pressed his presence on the other kid’s. There became a need to protect Kai after he nearly killed him that’s only grown with time. As time went by it was his feelings that changed towards his friends. Unfortunately at the same time, Shalana and Kai both started having intense feelings towards each other which left Dousuke as the odd man out in this would-be love triangle. He began to feel jealous and when his mood suddenly shifted, it would confuse those around him. Yet he never said anything and kept all of his feelings and thoughts to himself - especially when Shalana asked if Kai would date her. This is because he thinks that Kai doesn’t have the same feelings of love towards him and that’s okay with him. Dousuke is content enough to be a constant presence in his love’s life, to continue to be his friend. He’s just that kind of guy.

There is nothing that Dousuke won’t do for Kai, literally. He’s already turned his back on his one family member that didn’t automatically shun him for Kai and would do it again. If necessary, Dousuke would kill anyone who would harm the one he loves. He’s even said that if Kai disappeared into the human world, then he’d go to. Where Kai goes; he goes. Though this doesn’t mean they’re attached at the hip all of the time. Yet in the winter, when things are cold, he will huddle a little too close to Kai because his friend is the best walking heater around. He tolerates the extra heat the Fire Clansman puts out in the summer even if it’s not the greatest thing in the world. While they do spend a good deal of time with each other, Dousuke also happens to travel a lot by himself. Kai might know of his feelings at this point in time but they both have this silent agreement to never talk about it, because it could destroy what they do have. But Dousuke is the kind of friend who doesn’t hold back when it comes to other things to talk about. He won’t hesitate to try to stop Kai from doing stupid or losing his temper to the point that he lashes out violently. Though Dousuke does know when to step back out of the way or he’ll get caught in crossfire on accident. They can talk freely about everything when they want to (except their feelings for each other) and sometimes they don’t even need to use words in order to communicate. This is the product of not only spending so much time together, but also growing up side-by-side.

Loving Kai has many downsides, one being that he will never love anyone else. It’s just completely impossible for him – even if Kai were to die. As his journal name says, Dousuke is totally devoted to Kai. That doesn’t mean he won’t have the occasional casual fling with someone else. But that is all it is – an casual fling that doesn’t last long or end up with Dousuke developing feelings for the other guy (and yes, he is straight-up gay). Even if he did start that kind of relationship with someone else, Dousuke would drop them for Kai. All of this is exactly what makes it his most important relationship.

Shalana/Shea: This crazy ball of woman is Dousuke’s older twin sister, and when they were younger they actually got along fairly well. Actually, before Kai and Selest came along, they were all they really had. When their mother died after their birth, their father pulled away from them which left them with no other family to rely on but each other. There wasn’t any resentment on his part that Shalana was treated better by the villagers while he treated as an unwanted thing. He really did care for his sister no matter what happened. While he did tend to spend a great deal with Kai when the other boy came into their lives, it didn’t change his feelings for Shalana. It’s important to say this, because from the moment they were born – it was basically destiny for one of them to die at the hand of the other. This could easily pit one twin against the other but neither of them thought this way.

Things started to get complicated when they both fell in love with the same person. However, since Dousuke could see that Kai might return his feelings – he never came out to say it. He might have been jealous about it but he wasn’t the kind of person to stand in the way of their happiness. Their relationship changed even more when Shalana started to purposely take his power rather than the accidental moments that had happened before. That’s when Dousuke started dodging her. It wasn’t that he didn’t love his sister; it’s just that he didn’t want to die or want her to be the one to kill him. She was his only family but it was better if they didn’t see each other, so he kept away from her. When she started calling herself “Shea”, he was the only one who didn’t – and she let him. It hurt him to see his sister lose her mind because of a love she couldn’t have. He was disappointed in her when she tried to kill Kai’s sister yet didn’t completely write her off.

Nothing changed until Shalana brought back Kai and Selest’s dead father to use as her puppet. Shalana and Kai fought, and this was the real turning point in his relationship with his sister. When she nearly killed the person he loved – the person they loved – he stepped in to put a stop to it by using his own ability to knock her down. It wasn’t exactly that Dousuke was taking sides; it was to stop them both from fighting each other. She didn’t see it that way and snapped their bond. Shalana even told him that he wasn’t allowed to call her by her birth name anymore because he wasn’t her brother. Dousuke made one last effort to salvage their relationship but she wasn’t having that, and so he let her go. That was the moment when he did give up something so important to him for Kai – she really does go from being Shalana to “Shea” for him. Next time they meet, one of them may very well die (SPOILERS: it’s him).

Selestia: Kai’s younger sister is like a sister to Dousuke too. If she was ever in trouble, Dousuke would step in to help her out. And he likes it when she’s around, and wants her to be happy. Selest feels the same too, she wants Dousuke to be happy and is completely aware of the feelings he has for her brother. They have a lot of similarities. She wouldn’t spend any time around Kai when they were younger but she did hang out with Shalana lot. This means it wasn’t usual to see the pair of them together for some reason or another. Sometimes he’d even join them, though he’d leave them to spend time with Kai easily enough.

With her and Kai getting along these days, this means she spends more time with Dousuke too. He likes to listen to her talk about the work she’s been doing with the new clan, or the curses that surround the Fire Clan and Kai. It’s a way to get information he might not have gotten elsewhere, as he’s investigating it too. If there was time in between all of the things they do and Shalana being crazy, she might just try to get her brother and Dousuke into a relationship together. Good thing she doesn’t have the time because that might be a little awkward.

Layamon: This guy is someone that Dousuke respects, listens to and looks up to. He’s one adult that he has looked up to for a long while. Not really a surprise considering all that Layamon’s done in his time. He’s created a new way for the Water Clan to live, stuck by Kai even after his daughter died the day after her wedding, is one person who can read and is quite knowledgeable. Whenever Dousuke has a problem he can’t solve, Layamon is the one he goes to for answers. There’s no sugar-coating any knowledge when it comes from this particular source and Layamon knows things that most other people don’t. He even went so far as to tell him about merging with a human to save his life.

[There’s blood smeared across the screen when the device flicks on. It seems to be slightly dried and not a lot but there are some dark smears on the jumpsuit every new arrival is given. It doesn’t seem to end there as the one visible hand also appears to be bloody and a large spiky weapon didn’t escape getting covered either. Dousuke’s face is pale and there’s a bit of a haunted look in his eyes. If someone didn’t know better, they might think he just killed someone – or lost someone he cared about.

Currently Dousuke is still in the white room where he woke up so all of the crimson spots are very noticeable. He couldn’t read what was on the wall (or his device) so he has no way of knowing how to get to one of the cities. On top of not actually knowing how to use tech, it means he’s stuck there for the moment. It took a lot of button pushing to get the device turned on.]

Kurakai, you had better be alive. [Use of the Fire Clansman’s full name means he’s pretty serious.] If you aren’t, I will find a way to bring you back so I can kill you myself.

[Yes, Dousuke’s worried.]

I’m searching for a redheaded individual that stands over six feet who goes by the name Kurakai or Kai. He may be injured and I would appreciate it if you inform me of his location. You can tell him that Dousuke is looking for him and if he is injured, that he should stay where he is. I’ll come to him.

[The stubborn Fire Clansman would probably try to get up if he was injured.

He laughs but it’s clearly not a completely happy one.]
I told you – where you go, I go. Even if it does mean going to another world.

[At least Dousuke seems to be aware of that much. Now that he’s got that out of the way…]

This weapon is going to be completely useless in my hands so if someone could tell me where to sell it and get a bow with some arrows, I’d be grateful.

[Now he starts turning the device and his voice goes quieter.] How do I turn this thing off?
