Canon Abilities/Powers:
Ninjutsu
Kakashi is known as the Copy Nin for a reason. He uses his gifted Sharigan to copy techniques used against him. That technique is never lost and is something he can do years down the line so he has quite an arsenal.

Chidori & Raikiri
The one ability that Kakashi came up with all on his own. It's a lightning technique, one that requires the Sharigan to complete.

Taijutsu
He's quite skilled in the physical aspect of fighting, both in hand-to-hand combat and with weapons. While he mostly uses kunai and shuriken, Kakashi can also fight with swords - short and long.

Genjutsu
Not something he uses often but when he does, he uses it wisely with well-timed illusions.

Summoning Technique
He can summon a pack of various dogs that are good for tracking and attacking.

Sharingan
Again, something he doesn't use a lot as it tends to drain him considering he isn't an Uchiha. It's always active which is why he covers it but it allows him to copy techniques used against him. Not just that but it gives him the ability to see attacks he wouldn't otherwise. Obito's Sharingan is special. It has the ability known as Kamui - which is a specialized space-time jutsu. This allows him to transport things to another dimension along with himself. There is also a connection between his and Obito's Sharingan that allow them to share vision. It's a new development so there's absolutely no control on his end.

Sunshineverse History:
Everything up to the point to Obito's death remains the same. His father committed suicide, he ended up on a team with Obito, Rin and Minato, became a Jounin at age thirteen. One of those missions cost him his left eye that was replaced with one of Obito's Sharingan's. They then proceeded to finish their mission.

After that is when the changes happen. With their mission completed they returned to where Obito had been crushed by a rock and discovered that he wasn't dead but had slipped through sheer rock into an open space where he still lived. They carried his body home and he began his recovery thanks to Tsunade's medical skills. Those first few months Kakashi would always go straight to the hospital to make sure his teammate was still alive after a mission. It was always the most important thing upon returning to Konoha, more important than getting his own injuries treated. Though he never stayed long during those visits if he could help it.

When Rin would hover over their teammate, Kakashi would hang back. Not just a little but a lot. His time was mostly spent outside the hospital, lingering by Obito's window, just listening to the two of them. Something he still has a habit of doing. No, his longer visits came at night when it most likely that Obito would be asleep. Kakashi would sit beside his bed, quiet most of the time. On the very rare occasion he would talk to his unconscious teammate. Sometimes it would be about what was happening with the war, with the village. Every once-in-a-while he would admit deep, private things about himself. Lucky that Obito was unconscious during all of those moments, right? Right.

Since it appeared that Obito would live he attempted to return the eye that had been gifted to him only to have it refused. Eventually he stopped trying to give it back. Though that didn't happen until Obito was gifted with the eye of one of his relatives. While Obito continued to recover, Kakashi continued to fight in the war. Quite of few of his missions involved his teammate Rin. Near the tail-end of Obito's recovery there was a particularly bad mission where he returned to the village dripping with blood. As per his now-acquired habit, Kakashi went to check on his teammate, only to be caught not having his injuries attended first. Needless to say that he no longer gets away with that seeing as how Obito won't let him go without checking him over when he returns from missions now.

The war ended and Kakashi left behind normal missions. He became an ANBU and served under Minato long after Naruto's birth. For years he was just a member until finally he became a Captain with his own squad of rookies. After a year of working alongside them they were given a mission that was extremely dangerous. They went into the mission as a four-man squad and came back with two of their comrades carried on their backs. Thanks to the lesson he learned from Obito and instilled in his own team, they too nearly died in an attempt to save their comrades. Not that Kakashi regrets it. They did everything they possibly could - even come near death - but all they could manage was to bring their dead teammates home.

After that Kakashi had his remaining teammate placed on a new squad, recommending them for the position of Captain and refused to take on another one. He started operating alone as a member of ANBU. This is how it was when Obito became the new Hokage but sometime after he left the ANBU to take on normal missions once again. At first he refused any that would require the need of a squad but one particular mission made it impossible. He was forced to work alongside people once again.

Now that's what he does. Go on various missions while avoiding taking on a genin team despite the Hokage's irritating badgering requests. While he prefers solo missions, he will take on ones requiring a team without much of a fuss. Usually preferring those with chunin or higher ranks. Kakashi does, reluctantly, take on Obito's team from time-to-time because the baka doesn't seem to know about time management.

Sunshineverse Abilities/Powers:
The only thing that's really changed is Kakashi's use of the Sharingan. Since Rin didn't die it never became a Mangekyo Sharigan and his Kamui no longer works as it once did. Instead he has mastered transporting other people and just parts of them to another dimension. He cannot do the same to himself however. Sort of a yin & yang affect of the eyes as Obito can do the exact opposite. Because Obito was around they have figured out that they can see what the other is seeing and they've learned how to do it. Though they've never told anyone about it as it comes in handy as a secret technique.

Appearance:
Kakashi stands at about 5'9 with a thin but muscular build. However his white hair may add a couple more inches as it tends to stand nearly upright. Most of his face is covered, the bottom portion by a mask that rarely sees the light of day and his left eye covered by his hitae-ate. What it covers is very interesting. Down the left side of his face is a scar that starts at his forehead, goes over his eye and down to his cheek in a straight line. The left eye had been so damaged when he was younger that it was removed and replaced by his teammates, Uchiha Obito. Due to the fact that he's not an Uchiha (and that it was active when it was transferred) his left eye is now the famous Uchiha Sharingan. Always a Sharingan. On his left shoulder is the red ANBU tattoo, left over from his days as the Hokage's personal squad. Otherwise there's some various scars littering his body from all of the missions he's been on over the years. Most notably is the one on his right shoulder where he was pierced all the way through with a sword. There are a few marks across his back where a piece of heated metal was laid against his skin. And finally a large mark along his left abdomen that looks like someone nearly shoved a hand through his stomach.

Personality:
At first glance Kakashi seems like the sort of laidback person who doesn’t appear to care for anything. When he first introduces himself to new people he only really tells them his name. One of his friends often interprets this aloof nature as Kakashi being hip or cool when really he’s not. Kakashi is just the sort to take things easily when he can, and he does it with a carefree attitude. There are times when he can seem completely disinterested in the events happening around him but Kakashi has just mastered the art of appearing not to pay attention. He knows that panicking won’t help anything and tends to appear rather apathetic to most things. It helps that most of his face is covered and so his expressions are as well.

That nature comes in very handy during fights as he tends to stay calm and not rush rashly into trouble. Remaining calm gives him a sense of the battlefield that some may not see. It helps in not showing his surprise when unexpected attacks come and allows him to recover quickly. Of course, this doesn’t just cover a fight it also encompasses his daily life too. He tends to remain collected even when ridiculous things happen around him. That doesn’t mean that he’s always like that. It would take a serious shock for him to completely freeze up in battle.

Beyond his apathetic nature, Kakashi can be rather cheerful. He can greet most people with a friendly wave or just jump right into a conversation with someone he doesn’t know. Especially if that conversation isn’t about himself. Just because he’s friendly doesn’t mean he talks about himself a lot. Actually, Kakashi would prefer to be secretive about the things the happened in his past or even about his current self. This is something that’s rolled over from when he was younger and isn’t much different. When he was younger Kakashi was a bit of a jerk because of how he viewed his father. Sakumo Hatake put his team before the mission and became a pariah in the Land of Fire. Due to that Sakumo took his own life and Kakashi wanted to be nothing like his father. However, their appearance was very similar so he hid his face to be less recognizable. Kakashi wanted to cut all ties with his father and thus began to avoid talking about the past. Even with the changes he’s undergone since Obito’s near-death, he still tends to lean towards the side of being mysterious.

Which is one of the reasons people always complain about him being late when they meet up because he never tells them what he’s really doing. Every morning he’s in the village Kakashi visits the graves of his old teammates and loses track of time. When questioned by people Kakashi will often use an excuse, some of them once used by Obito. Kakashi can sometimes be a bit of a troll too. He often likes to mess with Gai or others of his peers and even his own teams.

However that doesn’t mean that he doesn’t have a serious side. When the need calls for it, especially on a high level mission, the cheerful and playful all but disappears. While he’s content to let his temporary to deal with the ones that involve walking dogs or catching lost pets, Kakashi is always alert when they have a mission that could involve danger. And he’s damn loyal too. Loyal enough to lay down his life in order to protect his comrades, he’s so loyal that he would, in fact, die protecting one of them and the village. That was something Obito taught him, the one thing he hated about his father. Those who break the rules are trash, but those who abandon their comrades are worse than trash. Even though Obito lived instead of dying, Kakashi took this up as his own Nindō. After discovering he also now believes that those that ignore their friend’s feelings are the worst of all.

Despite being known and quite famous as the Copy Ninja even by other lands he never boasts about his abilities. He’s pretty modest when it comes up though he may use it to his advantage against the enemy. Still, he doesn’t think that much of himself and has acknowledged that some of the students have become better shinobi then he ever could be. Even Sasuke is more powerful than he is and Kakashi will admit that.

Because of his own ridiculously high standards he holds himself to, Kakashi also holds other people to them as well. Kakashi has never accepted a squad to become proper genin, he won’t even look at another team after he lost half of his own. All of them failed to realize what his test was truly trying to discover in the team, which is of course, exactly why it was designed the way it was. Kakashi purposely pit the team members against each other by saying only two of them would pass. All of the other teams failed to realize that they were a team; that they should work together despite the fact that one would fail. There was even a point where he was disappointed in his old friend/rival for teaching a student a deadly technique.

When Kakashi has something he wants to say, he will say it, in the bluntness way possible too sometimes. He may not be the kind to share his own secrets but when there’s something that needs to be said he won’t hold back on the way it comes out. Which is a trait he used to have when he was younger and hasn’t changed at all. Kakashi knows that sometimes the truth is cruel and there’s not really an easy way to tell it so might as well just be as straightforward as possible. Another thing that’s a remnant of his past is his somewhat solitary lifestyle. While he’s very capable of working together in a team now he would prefer not to and Kakashi doesn’t spend a lot of time just hanging out with people in casual settings. He can also be a bit of a solitary fighter as well, especially when up against an opponent he knows his comrades can’t face.

Kakashi is also quite intelligent, though it may not show outside of a battle setting. At the age of five he graduated the Academy at the top of his class after just a year, and a year after that became a chunin. By the time he was the age our hero started the series with; Kakashi was already a jonin and leading his team for the first time. He also had developed the Chidori at this age too, though it was incomplete due to the fact that he couldn’t see incoming attacks quickly enough to dodge them. (This was completed with Obito’s Sharigan.) However, this intelligence may not be seen at the start considering Kakashi enjoys reading a series known as Icha Icha, which is series written by the perverted Sannin, Jiraiya. Little of the actual content of the books is actually known but they were meant for 18 & older people so clearly they’re very mature books. These books are something he pretty much considers a hobby as he collects and is quite often seen reading them.

Strengths and Weaknesses:
◆ As a shinobi Kakashi has stealth skills.
◆ He's been trained in hand-to-hand combat along with kunai, shurikens and short swords.
◆ Kakashi has intelligence, skill and aptitude. He graduated the Academy at five years old after only a year and joined his team. He became a Chunin a year after joining the team and was also the first out of his teammates to become a Jounin. That means he's capable of leading his team. (Though honestly, both of his teammates died when he was in charge.)
◆ Perceptive. Even without the use of the Sharigan, Kakashi was always able to detect when trouble was near.
◆ Determined. Kakashi is always looking to strengthen himself. It's important in attempting to protect the ones he cares about
◆ Survivor. Not only has Kakashi survived the deaths of his entire team, he survived a war. While he may not exactly be happy about it he lives on.
◆ Creative. Only maybe not so much anymore. He created a new jutsu called the Chidori and later the Raikiri. This shows that he had some level of creativity before he became known as the Copy Ninja.
◆ Obito. Okay so maybe a few would think that Obito is kind of a weakness because he's a derp but actually, he kind of brought out the best in Kakashi. He made Kakashi start thinking about his feelings and abandon his previous way of thinking that emotions are unnecessary baggage. Since Obito's near-death, he's far more focused on saving/helping his teammates now and loosened up a little.
◆ Loosened up some. He used to be such a stick-in-the-mud, always reciting rules and putting Obito down. While he'll still poke fun at Obito's expense (and possibly others), there won't be nearly as much malice in it.
◆ His mask. It's something Kakashi wears a lot of the time. It's great for hiding a good chunk of his face and can give him an excellent poker face. Also, great material for poking fun at people who want to see under it.
◆ First-aid training. He can tend to minor wounds with a first-aid like kit. Though Kakashi generally left the healing to Rin.

◈ Teammates.
They're Kakashi's biggest strength and weakness. He finally learned what it meant to be a teammate, accepted that it was okay to put them before the mission and what do they do? They up and die on him. ALL OF THEM. In about a year span. Obviously he'll be overprotective of all of them which could be considered a great weakness - especially in the shinobi world.
◈ His father.
When Kakashi's father committed suicide due to the ridicule of choosing to save his teammates instead of completing his mission, it set Kakashi on the path to pushing away everything that was unnecessary. It made him a bit of a jerk, to be honest. He's slowly getting away from that but Konoha wasn't built in a day.
◈ His eyes.
Under normal circumstances Kakashi's left eye is a great help to him thanks to the fact that he implanted Obito's Sharigan in it. While still be able to use it to see, it never deactives so it always uses chakra. Also, he covers it a lot (due to the fact that overuse can tire him out), which means he has to compensate for the lack of full peripheral vision. It'll be a little weird adjusting to both these things and thus a weakness.
◈ Gai.
Kakashi's long-time rival. Or something. Gai seems to think that he needs to beat Kakashi so he's constantly challenging him. Kakashi acts aloof about the whole thing but agrees in the end. Actually, this is a bonding experience for them. It builds trust and camaraderie.
◈ Humble/Self-Worth.
Being as humble as he is, Kakashi knows when he's in over his head and when he needs help. However, because he doesn't see himself as important as someone else he is the sort to make himself a sacrifice in order to protect someone else.

◇ Guilt. OMG so much guilt you can't even begin to understand. Guilt for not being able to protect his team. This is his main reason for not wanting to take on a genin team.
◇ Lots of repressed emotions and memories. How could he not when he saw his two teammates die. He won't want to talk about it.
◇ Still has that harsh attitude as a defense mechanism on rare occasions.
◇ Tardiness and lying. That is one thing he's sort of gotten from Obito, always being late and having a story to go with it. Except while Obito was actually helping little old ladies across town, Kakashi spends every morning talking to his comrade's graves. He tends to lose track of time when he does this.
◇ Porn addiction. He's become so obsessed with Icha Icha series that they could use spoilers to make him lose a fight.
◇ It might be a little hard for him to form deep bonds. After the losses he's suffered he'll be a bit hesitant at first but he'll come around eventually.

Village Affiliation: Konohagakure
Rank: Jounin

Prose sample:
Cool liquid poured across his face, a numbing sensation started from his left side and threatened to take over the rest of his body. It would be so easy to just lie there - to allow himself to sink into the warm earth beneath him as he swam in darkness. A sound pulled him away from the lure of safety. Just a soft one, the inhale of a breath that seemed so close. That alone was enough to make his open his eyes. To bring him to the harsh reality of the burning sensation that spread across his back and the sharp stabbing pain that happened when he flexed his hand into his side. When the world came into focus again he was looking at a mask he’d seen nearly every day for the last year. At a pair of eyes that lay hidden beneath it.

There wasn’t any fear in those eyes. No, there was only trust and understanding. A trust that he had instilled in them. Then suddenly they widened. Fear and surprise overwhelmed everything else and he had to look away. Standing above her was the enemy with his still hot staff in hand as he held it against her flesh. It raised and came down with such fierceness - with pleasure flickering across the enemy’s face. She didn’t scream. She barely made a sound at all.

However it wasn’t silent. The sound of burning flesh could be heard over the pounding of the rain, or maybe that was his heart. It was followed by a sickening crack as the staff pressed through her ribcage.

Then she screamed.

He sat up quickly, one hand pressed to his face as he attempted to shake the nightmare. His recurring nightmare. As usual his left eye remained closed but Kakashi stared blankly at the wall. Four years had passed since then but he couldn’t shake the image of her death, of the look in her eyes just before she died. With a sigh he shifted so his feet met the cool wooden floor. There was no way he was getting back to sleep at this point so he might as well get up.

A quick shower removed any physical evidence of his nightmare and after dressing he left his apartment. Kakashi fully intended to visit the grave marker for a time and so he strolled through the quiet streets of Konoha with his hands in his pockets. That idea was derailed when he noticed the light from the Hokage’s office. Either the Hokage was still awake, doing work at his desk or he’d fallen asleep there. Again.

The path he took to get the office was a familiar one, one where he avoided the normal way to end up on the other side of the door and instead found himself perched on the sill of the window. Kakashi doesn’t bother knocking or announcing his presence, just slipped in through the slightly open window. “Yo.”

Bracket sample:
[There is a long stretch of silence before a sigh can be heard. It's followed by the soft sound of a page turning.]

Team Obito is to meet tomorrow morning at the training ground. Your sensei's busy and has assigned me as your temporary leader for your next mission. We'll be meeting to discuss the details. Come prepared to train after the briefing.

Don't be late or you'll be left behind. And punished. [A quiet thud of his book closing.] That's all.

Missive Sample:
Baka,

No. Quit bothering me. Stop passing your team off to me while we're at it. You should learn how to manage your time better or assign them a permanent sensei who's not me. Remember, I know where you sleep. Next time I'll leave you with more than ink stains. And with something harder to remove. Besides, I already have a mission.
